This salvaged gem of a bar ups the ante in a gritty swath of outer Greenpoint.. How to restore life to a long-shuttered watering hole in the shadow of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway? The owners of Boulevard have taken a "keep what looks good" approach, uncovering original stained glass and sanding the long mahogany bar. The refurbished, comfortably worn-in space has been a hit with growing crowds of Greenpoint locals, but the main anchor is a no-nonsense 12-beer draft selection. Wide wooden booths serve as home base for reflective types, while minglers hit the pool table or migrate to the backyard courtyard.

Hits: A $5 all-you-can-eat beef, turkey and veggie dog barbecue on the back patio gets fired up at 9pm every Friday though Monday.

Misses: Unless you reside in east Greenpoint, it's a bit of a schlep for a drowsy weeknight--weekends are definitely more of a draw.
