Being a long time resident of Bed-Stuy I decided to check out Solomon's Porch one evening for take out. When I got home and opened the food which took nearly 45 minutes to make I was utterly disappointed. The calamari I ordered was fried so hard that it was barely edible. The fried chicken was also fried hard and it was extremely dry, the collard greens were equivalent to eating dry discolored leaves. I was so disappointed that I contacted the restaurant to voice my issues. I was told to bring the food back for a full refund ($20) however I opted for a complimentary brunch as a way to give the restaurant a 2nd chance of impressing me. I went back 2 days later as agreed upon and much to my surprise no one at the restaurant knew of my issue or arrangement with one of the managers, although I provided my name, and the date I would return. The manager present at the time called the other to check my story. I was then told that my previous bill only totaled $9 (although I was previously offered a full refund of $20). I was amazed at how the information was communicated between staff. Everything seemed perfectly fine when speaking to the first manager on the phone. In addition, the manager on site spoke so low that he was almost inaudible (I think he didn't want other customers to know about my food and service complaint). The service I received was unprofessional and I refuse to ever step foot in that establishment. I informed the manager that I was not pleased with their food, service, professionalism and that I would take my business elsewhere. Lastly, I would not recommend Solomon's Porch to anyone who inquires about a good place to eat in the neighborhood. Good luck to all of you who decide to venture inside. On a positive note, there is a nice decor and good music.

Pros: Nice decor and music

Cons: Slow service, poor quality of food and lack of professionalism

Though I'm really glad to have a restaurant in BedStuy, this place feels like a waste of space. On several occasions when dining in, it took 10 minutes for someone to bring water, another 10 for them to come back and take my order and at least 45 for the prepared food to actually arrive. I wasn't overly hungry when I came in, but I was ravenous by the time the food came. Every time I attempt to eat there, a couple menu items are not available (once, I asked for a turkey burger 3 days straight only to find out they wouldn't be in 'til the following week). The desserts are average-tasting and overpriced. This place is big on style and pretention, but doesn't have the quality service or food to back it up. BedStuy residents still pack it b/c where else are they going to go? They also tried to slip an entertainment charge on my bill once when I was having an early dinner on a Sunday poetry night. I came for food, not poetry, so it was a little shady to try and charge me for both when I arrived long before the entertainment began. If you're used to any non-fast food dining, Solomon's Porch will disappoint.

Pros: good light, nice decor

Cons: slow service, inconsistent menu, inconvenient hours, overpriced, blah food
