Great Jazz and Veggie Burgers - strange - I know.. Great Jazz every single night and the owner ( who is a sweet guy ) makes his own home made Veggie burgers- which he claims are the best in Brooklyn - they may be- who knows. Liked the whole strange scene. IT's worth checking out if you love Jazz- this is the only place around in Brooklyn to have the Jazz Club Experience.
BAD, DISRESPECTFUL ATTITUDE BY ONE OF THE CO-OWNERS OF THIS PLACE. The first time I went to this place, it was an enjoyable experience. Marty, a co-owner of the club is a REALLY nice guy. I recently went to their new, bigger and nicer location and was very impressed. Being a Jazz lover, I noticed a baby grand piano. A big plus for a Jazz Club. Marty, as usual, was as nice as could be. THEN, when his partner came in, the trouble began. The band playing asked me to watch their things that were sitting on the bench in the back of the club. This thug comes over, tells the band, in a VERY disrespectful manner, to get their things off his bench. I hate when Jazz musicians are treated badly by club owners. I then took some videos with my cheap point and shoot camera. NO FLASH of course. The thug comes over to me and states, in a very nasty tone, that I have to turn my camera off. I had the permission of the group who was playing, so I told him no. Not out of disrespect, but for the attitude problem he had. Most REAL Jazz Clubs in Manhattan not only allow NON flash photography, and in the case of SMALLS, one of the BEST Jazz clubs in NYC, Spike Wilner told me that he actually encouraged videos and photos. Even at the BLUE NOTE, they state at the beginning of each show, that no FLASH photos are allowed, but NON flash photos or videos are ok. Instead of being so concerned about videos, he should have been MORE concerned about the LOUD AS HELL patrons who were sitting right in front of the band, with no respect for the performing artists. I'm sick of so many club owers exploiting this new crop of GREAT Jazz artists that are on the scene now, by paying them chump change, treating them with disrespect and thinking they are GODS. If Marty ever dumps his partner, I will surely go back to the Puppet Jazz Club. But until then, I will never tolerate club owners who disrespect their musicians and/or patrons. . My advice? There are plenty of great Jazz clubs in NYC.. Go elsewhere.

A Real Jazz Cub in Brooklyn!.
Wandered into Puppets Jazz for the first time last Saturday. SO Glad I found it. Yes, the owner was encouraging us to come inside from the street. No, there was no cover. The music, by Randy Johnston and trio, was great. Much better quality of jazz than I expected to find in a little place on 5th Ave in Brooklyn. The place filled up as the evening went on and the crowd was in to it, which is great too. Don't know why the previous reviewer would go into a jazz club if he wants to talk over the music.
Drinks are reasonably priced, through the bar needs to diversify their selection a little more. Very friendly, welcoming staff. Nice sound, not too loud, but jammin. If you like Jazz, go!
I don't get it. I was aggressively hawked by the guy on the sidewalk, only to be charged a cover once he pushed me inside. That would've been ok, if he had warned me, but I felt taken advantage of. Once inside I got shushed by the uber serious jazz crowd. Ugh. Now I remember why I hate jazz, it's not the music, it's the people!
