“Portions are generous and their salsa is the perfect texture not too chunky or watery, if you don't watch out you will wind up eating an entire basket of chips.”
They closed the curtain with me inside.
I arrived at the bar at 11pm on a sunday night on June 14, 2009 and I asked the "owner" what time did they close and she said 12am. All of a sudden after ordering 3 drinks with my boyfriend at 11:30 pm the owner ordered that the curtains be brought down even the ones from
the entrance. I was terrified and I felt kicked out. They were rushing me to finish my drink. NOT WORTH THE MONEY. Mexican food served by Equadoreans. Terrible treatment. Highly over priced drinks. Drink asked to be chilled was warm. Waitress was texting instead of making sure all was well. I do not recommend this place cantina restaurant to anyone who is afraid of being locked in. The owners had the curtains brought down on my boyfriend and I. It was sad.
Good Food, Friendly Service, Great Prices. I grew up on this block and my parents have lived there for 40 years, so we've seen a lot of things come and go around here. But Cantina has managed to survive for several years which is saying a lot, even before the huge gentrification wave so clearly the locals like it. Not sure how "authentically" Mexican the food is but the owners are in fact Mexican and so are the cooks. I've enjoyed every meal here and have been at least 10 times over the past 3 or 4 years. Portions are generous and their salsa is the perfect texture not too chunky or watery, if you don't watch out you will wind up eating an entire basket of chips. Have had good experiences with the enchiladas tres colores...all of the fillings were tasty on their own. Also had great fried empanadas there as well. Tasty drinks and extra cold beer, what more can you ask for a cheap friendly place.
Favorite Neighborhood Spot. This has become my favorite local spot. I live close to Cantina and the owners recognize me whenever I visit. Each time I visit I am impressed with the attentive service both while have a tasty margarita during happy hour at the bar as well as having a nice dinner. The owners make it a point to make a trip to each table and work hard to make this place special. I wholeheartedly recommend their guacamole-best in brooklyn. Also, great outdoor spot when the weather is nice to enjoy a bite and have a few drinks with friends.
never crowded, nice staff, attentic, cheap drinks, yummy appetizers.
Nice managers always there to chat with you. We live neaby and visit often and they are personable and remember you. its never crowded so you get lots of attention and friendly conversation if you want it. They have lots of deals on drinks, and the drinks are cheap overall. They have yummy appetizers, and tasty daquiris and margaritas.
Their dessert is good too, like the sopapillas.
There mexican food isn't too authentic. small portions, foofy presentation, and not spicy..but that isn't bad. still good.
nice little neighborhood bar.
Great mexican food and even better margaritas! :). My boyfriend and I went here for the first time this weekend and loved it! They have wonderful outdoor seating, excellent food, and tasty margaritas and sangria! I wholeheartedly recommend it!
