With 6,000 square feet of space to play with, this up-market bocce bar (the brother of Brooklyn favorite Floyd) shifts personalities. Up front feels like a private library with stately conversation nooks, built-in bookshelves, comfy couches and two fireplaces. The gentlemanly space transitions to two manicured bocce courts, where rarely serious teams and spectators get much rowdier. The living room-like basement wavers between empty and packed--local indie band-loving fans swarm when there's a show.

cozy place

by browneyedgirl73 at Citysearch

i like coming here during the week, it's not crowded, you can sit on the couch and have some intimate conversation. drinks reasonably priced, there is bocce also. i've always found staff to be friendly and accomodating as well. the crowd on the weekends can be a bit obnoxious, and it gets super crowded. i do really recommend this place, it has something for everyone, so long as you can tolerate the crowds on the weekends.

  • Pros: staff, cheap, cozy atmosphere
  • Cons: super crowded on weekends

this place needs an attitude check.

if you expect to go to a bar and be treated like a human being... i would suggest you avoid this place at all costs.

being ejected from a bar because you're starting drunken brawls with the other patrons.. fair.

being ejected from a bar because someone has apparently decided you had too much to drink, although you're sitting quietly in the back having a conversation with your friends... wtf?

look, mr. union hall, if you got upset because i decided to explore a bit and find out what was going on in the performance space, fine. take me aside, tell me that i shouldn't have done that and i'll apologize and go back to my seat. but if you're going to get upset, and then instead of telling ME that, decide that it would be a better idea to tell someone else that if you catch me with a drink in my hand that i would get thrown out of the bar... someone's got some major malfunctioning in their brain. because guess what? that someone never relayed your message back to me.

i believe this was one of those cases where they decided i couldn't make my own decisions or be in control of my own behavior. and they really shouldn't have made that assumption before attempting to talk to me. and its offensive to me to think that they didn't have the decency to clue me in on their plan and reasoning for kicking me out. this place is full of class A a**holes who treat you like dirt.

  • Pros: absolutely none.
  • Cons: they have absolutely no respect for anyone.

Great! Except on...

by adriana2 at Citysearch

If you want to like this place, DO NOT GO on Friday and Saturday nights. That's when it gets obnoxious, full of drunken frat boys and airhead girls. Go during the week or during the day on the weekends and it's AWESOME. You can go with a date and sit in a dark corner and drink some wine. Or go with a group of friends, get a pitcher of beer and play bocce. Or, go downstairs and watch a great music show or comedy show. This place has everything. Including food! (ok, not that great, but the sliders are pretty good) And the bartenders are very friendly (not so much during the above mentioned nights, but then again, who could blame them)! One Sunday afternoon I couldn't decide what to drink and the bartender (Kristie?) took the time to ask me questions and actually created a cocktail for me! I love this place! (everyday, except you know when!)
