Confusing message about kids. We often go for brunch.The pancakes are great, as well as the home made sconces. We do love the food, and service is good. They have a great children's menu for brunch, but not enough high chairs, and the manager is rude to small kids and parents alike . My advice to the owners, switch managers to someone that does not give the bad eye to costumers, or if you do not want kids around , eliminate the children's menu.

outstanding. Had been a few times only for cocktails and finally made it for dinner last night. Every single thing our table of 3 ordered: drinks; mac n' cheese; salads; brussel sprout app; burgers; and shortribs was simply perfect. Service was casual and friendly but also prompt and attentive. Space is nice--exposed brick walls, antique clocks, and low lighting.

Good food and ambience, mediocre service, reservations not honored. Pretty good food at Jack the Horse Tavern. Comfortable ambience, great hostessing, good bartending/drinks. Menu much improved. But service is rather self oriented. Don't bother with reservations the owner will just trump the hostess and give them away. Overall average for NYC but pretty good for Brooklyn Heights

Jack the Horse is cocktail heaven. I have never actually eaten at Jack the Horse, because I go specifically for the divine cocktails. Their mixologist is constantly coming up with wonderful new (or new takes on old) drinks that are made fresh, from scratch, right down to the juiced citrus and the hand-flamed orange rind. Tthe drinks are generous, potent, and made from top-flight liquor as well.

Last week, I had a drink called Behind the Knees recently that effervescent and tippled with elderflower cordial--summer in a glass. I downed that one too quickly and then had another that was rich and multi-layered and encouraged slow sipping. My companion had two other drinks--equally wonderful, including an off-the menu custom order flip cocktail called the coffee flip that made us both fight for the dregs in the glass.

I have found the barkeep to be genial and welcoming when I wanted to chat and blissfully unobtrusive when I want to enjoy the company I am with. I haven't noticed the kid thing at all as I sit at the bar, but I can sat that the wonderful soothing calm atmosphere with its gentle simmer of talk and perfectly-pitched music is part of what I pay for with a $10 cocktail. I'm going back tonight.

Worth the trip from manhattan. Jack the Horse is a charming neighborhood restaurant that is great place for a date or to meet up with friends. The atmosphere is cozy without feeling like you are eating on top of your neighbors, the waitstaff attentive, great cocktails and amazing menu. Everything that we had (my friends and I all tasted off of each other's plates) was fantastic. Great flavors and everything was cooked to perfection. I highly, highly recommend. Give it try without your kids in tow and see how much you enjoy the food - it will certainly be worth it!! (And you know, some places are just not meant for kids and that should be okay.)

Great burgers!. It was a rainy night and we were looking for a good burger. We picked just the right place. Friendly staff greated us at the door and we were seated promptly. The restaurant was cozy in the mist of the rain. It was warm and welcoming. And did I mention the burgers? They were delicious. Great staff!

Not good. After munching on a couple of the dishes here, you'll be ready to let the acid drip from your tongue.

Service is just barely average, with little if no interest in the customer,

"hurry-up and wait" pacing, and receiving a chipped glass on my second serving of wine. It is a fairly sizeable chip and I easily could have cut myself on it if I hadn't been observant.

This lack of care extends into the kitchen. My lamb, is a disaster on a couple of fronts. Not only is the particular cut of meat overcooked and the accompanying sauce leaves an odd taste in one's mouth. The spinach it is served with is just boiled, with nothing, no salt, no seasoning, nada.

Not every Restaurant Needs to be McDonald's. In response to the many reviews that JTH is not family friendly - No, there is not a giant slide in the middle of the restaurant, a parking lot for your stroller or a balloon animal, free with every meal but - come on - does every restaurant have to cater to children! There is a time and a place for everything. I think it?s wonderful that some restaurants actively welcome families so parents can eat out without getting a sitter or so kids can ?learn social skills in public as eating in a restaurant.? BUT I think it?s equally wonderful there are places that people can dine w/o playing the ?isn?t he cute? game with doting parents at the next table or trying desperately to talk over a screaming child ?learning? a life lesson.

For the record - I have certainly seen young families with well behaved small children enjoying a meal at JTH. They don?t turn you away at the door or take turns scowling at you all night. That being said ? I wouldn?t plan your next little league pizza outing there.

As the wife of someone in the restaurant industry, a Brooklyn Heights resident and most importantly a food lover, I say Bravo! to Jack the Horse. In my opinion they have by far the best food in the Heights. The staff is warm and welcoming, the menu inspired and even the cocktails are excellent. This chef clearly cares about his product and goes above and beyond to pull together unique and tasty dishes. Perfect for a date with your spouse, a get together with a few friends or even a sole snack at the bar.

Walk the other way. Four of us went there on 11/8. I was impressed with the decor. It's a beautiful restaurant. The service was certainly lacking. Our waiter - Ciaran- was rude and discourteous. The fried oysters were the size of peas. The beef short ribs at $23 should not have been pluralized. The food fell way short of being gourmet. You can tell they're trying to be an upscale restaurant, but they don't have the chef or the service to pull it off, so it ends in disappointment. The waiter dropped the bill on the table picked it up with the payment and dropped it back down without ever saying a word. No one ever asked how the meal was. We all had to forfeit a glass of wine with our dinner because our waiter was never to be seen again. The busboy crashes through the place like it's a diner. We spent $310.00 and they didn't even wish us a good night o the way out. Never again.

Rude Bartender. We were excited to have dinner here on Thursday. But the bartender was so rude, we went elsewhere. I have never heard a bartender talk so poorly about and to his customers. It was almost as if he didn't want anyone there. To make matters worse, our red wine was way too warm, and our beer was flat.

No wonder why this place was empty.
