“The food was very tasteful and filling, the service was good (we were able to get our drink refills) and the atmosphere was lively.”
“The food is great too (try their crab cakes!)”
“the food and the service and the drinks were all great!”
“From fried calamari to a warm goat cheese salad to a tuna steak and finally an Argentinean steak and one being as well delivered as the other.”
“They had a nice pre fix menu for Thanksgiving”
“Saw the great reviews and decided based on the Sunday Brunch menu that this would be a great place to go for Mother's Day.”
“We can't wait to go back for dinner- and highly recommend this as a great, unknown party place!”
“The food is amazing, the drinks are amazing, and the service is great!”
“Excellent food/Huge portions//Warm atmosphere/Priced right”
“For our meal we both chose the eggs benedict (per the waiters suggestion) the hollandaise sauce was tasty and what I appreciated is they didn't smother everything in the sauce, but were very quick to offer an extra side to my friend who likes more sauce t”
Bad brunch. Their brunch was horrrrrrrrrrrrrrible. I was so disappointed. How can you screw up brunch? Cold food? Check. Wilted vegetables? Check. The waiters were nice. That's about the only good thing. Would not go back for brunch.
Outstanding 100th birthday party. We celebrated my grandfather's 100th birthday party last weekend. Everything was perfect. The food and service were both excellent. I recommend it very highly.
Bait and Switch.
Saw the great reviews and decided based on the Sunday Brunch menu that this would be a great place to go for Mother's Day. Big mistake. Prior to going we called and we told that that the regular brunch menu would be available with the possiblitly of the pricing going up from 12.95 to 16.95 a la carte unlimited mimosa, coffee and tea. The price when from 12.95 to 18.95, with one mimosa and the menu got cut down to a third. At the end of it all, I spend $25 on a small bowl of fruit, a burger and a salad.
Yes, the ambience is nice but that is it! Service is poor! MOther's day menu was ridiculous to say the least!
great disappointment. Attended a Saturday brunch party at Black Pearl at which the whole restaurant was booked for the party. I had read prior reviews and was looking forward to this party. Highly recommended was the eggs benedict with bacon and all reviews stated 3 eggs on english muffins. First of all there were just 2 3ggs. The party was scheduled from 12 noon till 3 pm and the food did not come out till 2:00 - 2:15 pm. The only time a waiter came around was to ask what you wanted to eat. No one ever came to ask if you wanted a drink - coffee, tea, etc. (there were liquor drinks included on the menu). The food came out cold. The cake came out of the kitchen at 2:45 leaving no time for some people who had scheduled rides to go home at 3:00 pm when the party was scheduled to end. I was totally disappointed and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who tells me they want to go there.
Great Place for a Party!. We just held our wedding reception at Black Pearl and absolutely loved it! The restaurant has a beautful, warm feel and has a great set up for a party with both a wine cellar and a long bar. We wanted a low key, Brooklyn feeling with excellent food and that's exactly what we got! We also received lots of complements from our guests about the food, the decor and the excellent service. We spent a lot of time with the owners, Rob and Bob, in planning for the event- and they were incredibly flexible, accomadating and really nice to work with. They even created a whole dessert bar- with mini-cupcakes, tartuffo and cookies that everyone loved. They planned a great party for us, and made it really easy for us to just enjoy the day- confident that they were taking care of everthing. We can't wait to go back for dinner- and highly recommend this as a great, unknown party place!
CAUTION: 18% Tip Added to All Checks.
CAUTION: This restaurant adds a gratuity of 18% to all checks, regardless of the number of people in your party. I have never encountered this policy before, and understand that it is illegal unless it's clearly posted (which it's not). They also charge separately for mixers in drinks. Order a gin and tonic, and you pay for the gin, and you also pay for the tonic separately.
Otherwise, an OK spot among a field of terrific Park Slope contenders.
Comfortable Place, With Great Food and Service. This restaurant is really worth it. My favorites are the Ceaser Salad, and Penne al a Vodka. The booths are really comfortable and the waiters and waitresses are friendly and always try to please the customer. There are also really nice, clean bathrooms. With exposed brick walls and a sleek bar, you feel comfortable but not overwhelmed. With low music and colorful art this is a perfect place for a date, or a family dinner.
Excellent food/Huge portions//Warm atmosphere/Priced right. My wife and I were searching for a place for a Sweet 16th party and came across The Black Pearl Bar & Grill at 833 Union Street, Brooklyn, NY. What we discovered was this rich cozy Tuscany atmosphere with a long bar with a brick oven. We were warmly greeted by Maitre Damiano who made us feel at home. He suggested the arugula salad with walnuts and goats cheese which was delicable. On the table was a generous portion of focaccia with brushetta from their brick oven which I could not stop eating. Next was a very huge plate of lobster Bisque which I may add is one of my favorites. Next we tasted Lobster Ravioli in a cream sauce which was awesome. Followed was a huge zesty tangy crab cake over a bed of vegetables. As you can see I like to eat and have a passion for food. The wines are excellent as well as the beer on tap. Needless to say after this sumptuous meal and meeting with our Host Rob we did book the Sweet 16 party. This is an excellent place for dinners & parties. There is a parking lot across the street. This indeed is the best kept secret in Brooklyn, but not for long.
Comfy Cozy with Good Food and Service.
It's just different! I have eaten in may places from Bay Ridge to Park Slope to the UES. This is one of the few places I actually enjoyed dining in. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable, the art work is unique(Di Blazian),the lighting is very different and the brick oven is unusual.
But let's get to the real stuff! There is a great selection of soups and tapas to start your meal. I very much enjoyed the seared tuna as well as the proscuitto wrapped shrimp. My partner ordered the trio fish entree(salmon, tilapia, shrimp) and I had ordered the lobster seafood platter.
Both of us agreed that we have not found many reasonably priced restaurants (NYC or Brooklyn)with flavor as our meals were cooked with.
If you dine out as much as we do or dine out just periodically this place
is a welcome surprise. Our waiter Eddie also made us feel like right at home. He was not over bearing but yet he was prompt with food and drink.
Hope this place is around for a long time!
SECRET SPECIALS !.
Visited Black Pearl Thanksgiving day with my mom and dad. They had a nice pre fix menu for Thanksgiving
There was a choice of a turkey, ham or lamb entree in addition to the regular menu (good choice of apps, salads, also fish, meat and pasta entrees). One of the secrets about this place are THE SPECIALS !
I had the pancetta wrapped chicken medallions which was one of the specials (but the procutto wrapped
pork loin sounded real good too!) My mom and dad's turkey was nice and moist and the marshmellow glazed sweet potatoes were delicious.
The atmosphere was warm and cozy and people seemed as though they did not mind waiting at the bar for a seat to dine. Then service was precise, prompt and very accomodating and the wine list was solid. It was also nice to see the chef visit many of the tables including ours !
Don't miss this one it seems to be something pretty special !
