No Brooklyn cafe has a more rabid partisan following that Grumpy, whose Stumptown beans and exacting brewing set the standard for Brooklyn baristas.
The epitome of a North Brooklyn freelancer-filled coffee shop with free WiFi, Warby Parkers, and perfectly pulled espresso drinks. Go online to find out the story behind your drink's beans, and know that you're supporting the good guys. This is one of the roaster shops--eardrums beware!
Coffee overshadowed by Indie hell. I guess this is where Trustafarians work at after they graduate from school? Coffee wasn't my style but I could see the care taken in their coffee. But I just want a cuppa joe without having to deal with politics, etc. which seems to be the favor of the day with coffee in NYC. Why can't one get a simple, good cup of coffee around Billyburg? I feel I've outgrown it all. . . and, yeah, Lou Reed ain't all that either.
Sunny coffeehouse wires Greenpoint with shots from a high-end espresso machine.. This sunny corner spot glows with tangerine walls, honey wood tables and a beautifully restored tin ceiling. Coffee brewing is treated as an art form, crafted with the utmost care and precision. A Synesso machine insures espresso is brewed with the proper water temperature, and beans are all of single origin, mostly from regions in Ethiopia and South America. Lattes are a specialty, topped with artfully patterned foam. Hunger is sated with pastries from Colson Patisserie, muffins from Blue Sky and vegetarian and vegan sandwiches.
