Getting Hipper. JC Penney has been struggling with it’s image since the 90’s, but they’ve recently made waves with their Liz Claiborne, Bisou Bisou, Nicole by Nicole Miller, MNG by Mango, and Joneswear lines, and have positioned themselves as a steep-discount department store. They have a built-in Sephora store, which is a wise decision given consumer’s current predilection towards such retailers. They also offer special sizes; petite, tall, maternity, plus, etc, which many big-box stores do not. They have men’s polo shirts for $9.99 and the gold and gemstone jewelry is really cheap too!

Many people do not know that JC Penney has built-in hair salons and spas and optical/eyeglass shops in many stores. And, of course, the traditional photo studios where you can get portraits of you or your family and have them printed in all different sizes… I love these, especially for online dating, as professional photos are always so much better than snapshots. They have custom decorating- interior design consultants on staff, to help you pick out the furniture and fabrics that best suit your home.

I love the “Know Before You Go” feature on the website, which enables you to check if the store you are going to has the item you want (right on down to the color and size) in stock before you make the trip. What a time-saver! Penney’s has a rewards program/card where you earn a $10 store certificate for every $250 you spend.
