Food was OLD and BAD smelling. They used to have good food and service. This time I got food poisoning!!! The xtapodi giouvetsi had a bad smell and the grilled garides even worse! They tried to convince me that it was fresh and maybe salty!.?? They thought I am a koroido, and laughed behind my back! I have been their customer since they opened, and I know the owner too. Well The food was shity and the service was unacceptable!!

Horrendous Experience, Would NEVER go back to this place. Agnanti - Astoria Location

In all seriousness, save yourself the time, money and aggravation and don't even consider going to this restuarant. Mediocre food, coupled with the most outrageously rude & unprofessional hostess should be reason enough to stay clear of this place.

A few specifics...We made a reservation for a large family event we chose to host at this restaurant. From the start, it was aggravating...we had to ask 3 TIMES for olive oil for the bread, which took almost 15 minutes to obtain (the restaurant was empty mind you). While ordering appetizers, the waiter kept insisting he couldn't take our appetizer order until we were ready to order our entire meal. Then, in the middle of our meal, we were given the check without even asking us if we wanted dessert/coffee. Final straw, the hostess asked us to get up and move in the middle of our meal...and had the nerve to ask us to squeeze the remainder of our party into a table meant for about 5 people. When we finally put our foot down and said that we were almost finished, and not about to ask the 2 older people in our party to MOVE to suit her insane demands, she literally threw a tantrum and started yelling in the restaurant that we were rude. She then told us there was a time limit we could stay, and then boldly lied to our face that the reservation time was 30 minutes earlier than we made it...essentially trying to tell us we weren't allowed to stay longer. When we finally left, which at that time was still within our "time limit", she had the nerve to yell at us in front of the entire restaurant saying she didn't need people like us in her restaurant....people like us being a table of over 10 paying customers who just gave her business?!! It was atrocious the way we were treated, and I can guarantee that if they keep up this behavior, restaurant won't last much longer. Is it really worth a try for crappy food and horrendous service? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!

Agnanti—Brooklyn, the Demise of a Good Restaurant. We had made a reservation at Agnanti Restaurant in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, New York, for Easter dinner, this past Sunday. We were entertaining relatives; we were a party of eight, seven adults and one toddler. My wife and I had eaten at Agnanti many times and had numerous large family events there. So we considered ourselves loyal long-term customers. Recently a new “manager-waitress-cook,” who I will refer to as “Ms. Roula” took over the stewardship of the restaurant. Agnanti Restaurant is now a place to avoid to the benefit of one’s dining experience and wallet.

Upon arriving at Agnanti at 1:00 p.m. and making some small talk among ourselves, Ms. Roula came to our table and told us we were “dead”, we were not effervescent! Then she proceeded to serve us a meal—without asking us anything! I got the impression that only a pre-fix meal was available. We were served a traditional Greek magiritsa soup, which most of my guests did not want, like, or eat, a 100% lettuce salad with a few peppers (which could not have cost more then $3.00 to make), one small plate with a few pieces of feta cheese (another $3.00), and the main course of roast lamb and potatoes. One guest had moussaka. The meal was of average quality, it was nothing exceptional. Throughout the meal Ms. Roula would be coming to our table and make inappropriate comments and gestures—she told one guest to eat the lamb with his hands and she took all the Easter eggs and cracked them against the table in front of my son! So we had no eggs to crack among ourselves, to say “Christos Anesti.”

What was the bill for this non-memorable Easter dinner? $50 a person! You can do the multiplication! (Exclude the toddler.) Even for the individual who had moussaka! Only at our insistence that moussaka should not cost $50, Ms. Roula took off $20 from the bill—stating that she had to charge for the meze. What meze? A plate of moussaka is no more than $12.00 on a regular afternoon at Agnanti. The punch line to this saga is that as other customers arrived at the restaurant I saw that they were ordering from a menu—a la carte!

These are hard economic times, profit margins are tight for restaurants. But when the actions of a restaurant’s management strongly suggest that it pilfers long-term customers at a holiday meal it gives up its credibility: it is time for the restaurant to cease operation.

Oh, Agnanti, farewell!

Two Faced Dining. Been here about 4 times and it seems the food was good every other time. My first meal there was pretty good and the second time around, not so good. Third time wasn't bad either, but the last time i went, I ordered the salt cod, which was hot on the outside and still FROZEN in the center. Decent Cypriot food if you're willing to flip a coin on how good your meal will be. As for me, I'm not taking that chance any more.

Take it or leave it. Everytime I visit this eatery it's a surprise. As in, will it be bad or will it be good? This place is really all about the appetizers, which are nicely priced and tasty. Too much oil on a few dishes, but in my experience when I didn't even eat a dish because it was so oily, they did take it off the bill.

Now the entrees are overpriced and bad. The rabbit was dry and swimming in something that looked and tasted as if it came out of a can. The place does need an overhaul on the interior. I haven't been back since they reopened, but one day when I'm in the neighborhood and feeling for some spinach pie, this is a decent place to be.

A profoundly disturbing health hazzard. This started off as a good greek retaurant when it first opened four years back. It has deteriorated very badly since then. They dont keep the place clean, body odor is very bad some of the workers smelled. The tables were not clean underneath there was junk all over. one evening during dinner they were taking out the garbage while we were eating really rediculas. I happen to live only a block away from this place on 5 ave and when i walked by and saw the health dept sign that it was shut down didnt surprise me it was a very dirty place to sit and eat glad somebody did something about it!

Love this place!!!. Delicious Greek food!!! This place is spot on with the food, I never had a bad dish. The only thing I would change is to add more specials. I have eaten here so much I wish they would change up the menu a bit but I still come back over and over!!

Very Good!. My native greek friend says this is her favorite restaurant outside of Greece. I have been here twice, and can't wait for the next time. It's a beautiful restaurant, has great food, and a lively atmosphere. I would definitely recommend going with family or a group of friends. The decor is gorgeous, but not overdone at all. You feel like you're right in Europe. Great menu and great value for what you get!

Editorial Review. The Brooklyn outpost of the popular Astoria eatery provides the same authentic Greek eats.
