Brooklyn >Dashing Diva
“The first time I went in for a basic pedicure and manicure and while on that occasion my nail technician was very pleasant, and I enjoyed sipping a cup of tea and choosing the scented oils for my hand and leg massage my polish was so chipped by the second”
“Polish chips horribly within 48 hours, some of the staff are extremely rude”
“Shortly before my polish was applied I went back to the front desk to pay my manicurist who told me my service would be 20% more expensive then the price quoted and and posted overhead on the price list.”
Longest lasting pedicure ever!.
I have been coming here since August 2007 and always had a wonderful experience. I have brought my husband and Mom at different times, who were treated very well indeed.
All the girls are competent, but I prefer to see Lhamo, who knows how I like my wax, mani and pedi by now!
Not sure what the other reviews are on about, without fail my pedicures last 3 weeks without a chip, that's why I still go there! Mani's last a week, maximum.
I usually have the hot pink or scarlet on my toes and natural pink on my hands, both from the white capped range that are formaldehyde free, as I am pregnant.
Free teas, lots of current magazines, free cosmopolitans on Friday evenings, laid back music.... it's great. Downside is only the occasional loud mouth that insists on using their mobile for an hour, or shout to their mates across the salon.... would prefer a no cell phone policy!
Polish chips horribly within 48 hours, some of the staff are extremely rude.
I have been to Dashing Diva on Smith ST. twice in the last month because I live near by. The first time I went in for a basic pedicure and manicure and while on that occasion my nail technician was very pleasant, and I enjoyed sipping a cup of tea and choosing the scented oils for my hand and leg massage my polish was so chipped by the second day I had to remove it out of embarrassment at work.
Saturday night, about 36 hours ago I ran in for a last minute polish change for a business dinner that night. I only had had my original manicure about a week and a half before, and when I inquired about the price of a polish change one of the nail techs at the front desk standing next to the receptionist scoffed at me while telling me the price. Shortly before my polish was applied I went back to the front desk to pay my manicurist who told me my service would be 20% more expensive then the price quoted and and posted overhead on the price list. The receptionist quickly corrected her so I gave my nail tech the benefit of the doubt and even tipped her over 20% on my credit card.
....23 hours later with not even so much as having washed my dishes my polish was again chipped half off my nail. I feel very much taken advantage of, and will never again return to dashing diva. Also their website advertises the wide availability of "extra virgin polish" which are formulas free of DBP, toulene, and fromaldehyde at their locations, but when I went they only had two not-work-appropriate colors in the "extra virgin" line: a sparkly blue, and bright orange. My experience with this company has proved degrading, and a waste of money. Should have waited to go to my organic nail place on the LES, Priti.
beware of Maria. I used to swear by this place; however, my last visit was disappointing. I made reservations for my sister and I to have manicures & wine pedicures (which was a special that required more time). While I arrived at the scheduled time, my sister was literally no more than 10 minutes late. Maria, a nail tech parading around as manager, got huffy, constantly asking me how much longer my sister would be. I noticed her rolling her eyes while explaining to the other girl that we were running a little late. In the end, we decided to just stick with mani's as her attitude put us in fear of the consequences of what she would do to our feet. The polish wore off in 2 days and for double the regular cost, quite a disappointment! The plus is that the place is very clean; however when you go or make reservations, make sure to NOT request MARIA. She is nasty and extremely unpleasant.
Worst Customer Service. I've had two extremely unsavory incidents with Dashing Diva that has turned me off to them forever. The first such incident occurred last month; I purchased a Gift Certificate at the Dashing Diva located on Columbus Avenue between 88th and 89th. The certificate says that it must be used at the location where purchased, but the sales associate assured me that the certificate could really be used at any Dashing Diva in the city. When the recipient attempted to cash in the certificate at the Dashing Diva on Smith Street in Brooklyn, it was rejected. This clearly means that either the sales associate at the Dashing Diva uptown lied, or the associate at Dashing Diva in Brooklyn was wrong. Furthermore, I recently made an appointment at the Dashing Diva on Smith Street in Brooklyn and was 10 minutes late due to circumstances beyond my control. I called the store twice to inform them of my tardiness, and was subsequently placed on hold and then hung up on. When I arrived, I was told I couldn't get a pedicure for the rest of the evening, and was offered no alternatives when I explained that I was hung up on when called. This, despite the fact that there were obviously unoccupied technicians in the salon and several hours until closing time. I have been to many upscale nail salons in New York City and occasionally I've been a few minutes late due to circumstances beyond my control but I have NEVER been told to go away. This company charges far too much for their services to then treat their customers so poorly. Plus their special Dashing Diva nail polish chips off the next day. This place is a dump.
Best nail salon in NY (not just in Brooklyn).
Dashing Diva Brooklyn is, in my opinion (and I have tried a few) the best nail salon in the city for a few reasons:
1) immaculate cleanliness - the salon is spotless, the tools are sterilized in an autoclave (a new set opened for each client) and I've been there at the end of the day to see everyone in the salon scrub the pedicure area with some hardcore dedication.
2) great service - the receptionists and nail techs are all very nice, polite and accomodating. They make sure you are paid up before they polish your nails so you dont smudge. They button up your coat and help you put your shoes on if you need to leave before you're 100% dry. They fix your nails with a smile if you do mess them up. The manager is especially lovely and remembers your name.
3) color selection - they have an amazing array of shades, from dozens of basic reds, pinks and neutrals to really fun vivid ones like purple, black, orange and green.
I recently moved out of the neighborhood into Mahattan but haven't found a better salon and am seriously thinking I'll have to go to Brooklyn to get my nails done, they're that good.
best in brooklyn. As Soon as you walk in you are at peace with yourself. The receptionist is extremely Nice, and the service was Perfect. And the palce is soo clean you can eat of the floor.
