Make your own Bloody Marys!!!. I used to walk by this bar not knowing what the scene was. I stopped by on a Sunday recently on my way to brunch when I saw the 'Make your own Bloody Mary" sign. Simple enough - I got a vodka shot in a glass of ice and was directed to the end of the bar. There was an awesome assortment of the usual bloody mary ingredients, as well as lots of hot sauces, and really interesting garnishes... pretty much anything you can imagine might go into a bloody... I called a couple of friends and we spent the afternoon hanging out there. The vibe was really cool and the everyone was having a great time. I'll be back for sure.
Cheap drinks every night!. The drink specials can't be beat. Ladies drink free every Monday night. $2 gin and tonics and $2 PBRs 24-7. The owner becomes and instant friend and the locals too.
No frills, no attitude and cheap beer draw lo-fi Greenpointers..
In Short
This dive bar, named after the departed painter and the owner's now-defunct rock band, is the sort of place where $2 cans of PBR are the drink du jour and the day's sports game flickers on a projector screen. Metal tables decorated with sunflowers line the exposed brick wall, while Polaroids of regulars--a crowd of hipsters and local Joes--dot the opposite orange wall. Anything goes at Wednesday's open mic and on the weekends' live music stage.
