Fantastic sushi, great Japanese food, good company. Excellent sushi, hands down the best in the area. If you want real Japanese style sushi and not the cookie-cutter stuff that they try to pass as sushi at some of the other sushi places in the area, this is the place to go. The staff is all Japanese and know what's good. The waitress we had was very helpful and friendly and even chatted with us for a bit about Japan (my girlfriend had a lot of questions) The non sushi dishes gave us an excellent sampling of real cuisine in Japan. If you are well versed in Japanese food, looking to try something, or just interested in Japan, this is the place to go!

Not only some of the best sushi in town but this is what a neighborhood restaruant should be. My wife and I have eaten sushi in many places in and out of the United States, West Coast to East Coast, from all around Manhattan and all the way to the tip of Long Island. And I can truly say that Sakura is on my top 10 list.

Not only is the fish top notch but the whole staff from the own on down makes you fell like you part of their family. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by everyone, your coats take and you are seated. Everyone one is knowledgeable about the days special fish all the way from japan and the extensive sake menu. And do try the sake. They have a large section of sakes. If you don?t drink alcohol try some green or buckwheat tea.

The menu is not as large as a restaurant but some of the dishes are unique to them. Some of the recipes comes from the owners family and some come from Sakura?s master chief with over 40 years experience as a sushi chief.

If your are one of these people that only order California rolls or something with cream cheese in it, you need not come here. But if you would like to enjoy a bit of Japan and really get a taste of what sushi should taste like please do come.

Best Hamachi Kama. I am huge fan of grilled fish - mackerel, cod, yellow tail neck etc. This place does each of these perfectly. Go with a small group because you do not want to share. The sake selection is great, they compliment all the little dishes perfectly. I hate pumpkin but we ordered a pumpkin appetizer and ordered another right after we finished the first. The wait staff is so friendly and adorable.

Excellent Sushi. I went to the "cherry blossom" (Sakura) cafe for the first time last week. At first, I was a bit taken aback by their lack of a sushi bar.

My first thought was "well, there must be something they are hiding, right!?"

Well, things could not be further from the truth. The reason why there is no sushi bar is simply the fact that the owner of Sakura, a very lovely lady from Japan, started out her restaurant as a sake bar - and added the food part later on. Perhaps not the best idea for business - but the Sushi is expertly prepared by a dedicated Japanese Sushi Chef with 40 years of experience ... do I need to say more? His English however is not as good as his skills with the knife, and that's the reason why he likes to hide out in the kitchen. But no need to worry, this place serves up some of the best sushi/sashimi in all of NYC - and all of this at very reasonable prices.

Eh. I keep going back to this restaurant thinking that it's inexpensive, and then paying way more than I expect to at the end of the evening. The food is not that cheap, even by 5th Ave standards, and is merely average. Maybe it's the sake--the selection is wide and smart, but costly.

Great Hangout Spot. My son and I visited this placed and we were both thoroughly impressed. It was clean, small and initimate with a wonderful ambience (and great music), and the food was incredible. Everyone was was really friendly and helpful, particularly because I am just becoming familiar with sushi. I'll definitely dine there again.

Try OMAKASE dish. They served the best OMAKASE sushi & sashimi dish in NY. Started $35 & up here. But if you go to any Manhattan upscale Sushi place it cost $65 & up. So take advantage of Brooklyn price. Also happy hour spacial sushi roll dinner for $9.99 (only Mon & Tue )

The Real Taste of Modern Japan. This place is the real deal. Master Sushi Chef trained in Japan, over 30 years experience this guy really knows fish. This also feature Cafe Menu that has great contemporary dishes. I recommend cucumber salad, you have never tasted anything like it and it is delicious. The interior is understated making it special enough to take a date but easy enough to stop in anytime for dinner or snack. Great backyard where you can savor the many sakes they import since this is also a sake lounge. Try one of the sake tasting combinations and you will be blown away at the variety of flavors in sake. The service is not 4 stars but staff is friendly and knowledgeable and you will really feel like youre visiting a cool spot in Tokyo. Fumiko the owner is always on hand to make sure your visit is fun and relaxing. Highly recommended.
