“Often the dishes are nicely prepared, but the service is slow, the atmosphere is pretentious, and the bills, well the bills get real big real quick.”
“Overall, I would recommend this place if bringing your own wine is important to you.”
“The food is delicious -- a tasty combination of African, European and American flavors, with unusual ingredients (sorrell, palm sauce, maffa) and also favorites (fried chicken, salmon, bread pudding).”
“tell them I've had almost everything on the menu, and everything is not only delicious, but smart.”
“Suffice to say, almost all of these meals take place in Manhattan, and at the end of each one while my family is promising to come to Brooklyn sometime, I tell them about this great little restaurant.”
“The service is delightful, provided you luck out and can actually get a table, and the food is delicious.”
“My date and I returned later that evening to the quaint restaurant with its white washed exterior and no large signage, but huge front glass windows and door that lead you into a warm dark wooded floor with candle lit tables n an open kitchen that let you”

Had my birthday dinner here. Loved everything about this place. The vibe was wonderful. Friendly, attentive service. But in the end, it's the food that gets you. I actually had a dream about the spiced fries. Plus you can get smaller portions, which gives you the option of trying more than one dish. It was BYOB which kept the check small, but that nonwithstanding, the prices were amazing. If this restaurant were in a fancier neighborhood, the prices would have been twice as much. But, the fact is, it's a family owned place, with great food, great people, and great prices. Go immediately.
Fort Greene eatery blazes a culinary trail from Senegal to the Seine..
The Scene
Chef Abdoul Gueye cut his teeth in upscale establishments like Aquagrill and La Goulele, but his unpretentious bistro looks more like something from his native homeland of Senegal. Bare stucco walls, a few tropical plants, ceiling fans, and wide-opening casement windows ensure that diners stay cool while they wait for their food--a good thing as service can be a bit laissez faire.
The Food
The minimalist decor is nicely countered by Gueye's complex fusion of French and African flavors. Fresh pineapple wedges add a tropical twist to perfectly crisp crab cakes, while Senegalese fried chicken rides high atop a jasmine-kissed rice cake, drizzled with a sinus-clearing Dijon sauce. Mango slices, spicy peanut sauce and plantain-based gnocchi elevate roasted Atlantic salmon into a continent-hopping triumph. Before finishing with the ultra-dense bread pudding, clear your palette with a glass of Sorrel, a refreshing scarlet-hued drink with a bracing kick of ginger.
