The Scene
With cobblestone floors and stone walls, this sweeping, high-ceilinged bar feels like a fortress--and offers a safe haven from the chaos of nearby Penn Station. Thanks to a personable staff and cozier seating in the back room and mezzanine, the warehouse-like space seems almost as intimate as a tiny neighborhood tavern, complete with customers saddling up to the long, full bar or tall tables to catch a soccer match on the large-screen TVs.
The Draw
Commuters and local workers alike marvel at the extensive beer selection--more than 20 on tap and 100 or so more in bottles--listed by country, like fine wine. Beer connoisseurs dine on British pub grub like bangers and mash, Manhattanite-friendly oysters, or juicy build-your-own burgers, and (in honor of the bar's namesake) wash it all down with robust Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout or the incredibly creamy, perfectly poured Young's Double Chocolate Stout.

I've been to Stout several times before for a meal. Because of the great location I wanted to host a football watch party at this venue for about 20-30 people, nothing formal. I was informed about private rooms but I did nto desire that. I was told that there was an area available for reservation but it would have to be confirmed with the party planner. I was then informed that this "available" area could not be reserved due to happy hour (after I was told there was no happy hour). If I wanted to reserve that small bar space in the back it would be a $2500 bar guarantee. That means my guests would have to spend about $100 for bar food on a random night? My take, they probably didn't want our business because that is a great way to deter a potential party. Maybe you must be Irish to be accepted there... Needless to say, I won't go back there for anything.

This one is huge !. I've been to a lot of Irish Pubs around the world (including Ireland) this is the biggest I've ever seen and one of the best too. The food was fantastic, I had a Shepherds Pie which was a variation of the usual pub fare here in NY. The Stout (4 to choose from) was served up in a 20oz proper pint glass and went down smooth, I'll be back often.
Pros: Good location, food and beer.
Cons: Not close enough to my appartment.,
