Mean staff for nothing.
Go on an uncrowded Wednesday evening (meaning empty stools and unused tables) to see your friend's band play while waiting for your other friend (who will buy you a drink on arrival).
Expect the sour waitress to offer you a menu and then talk behind your back for declining it. In minutes, the waitress will boot you off the stool claiming "someone else who might come in will need it." Who said that waiting 5 minutes for a friend to arrive to buy you a drink (or not) wasn't allowed? Also, if your wallet was recently stolen/lost, she won't care since she'll give you a blank, mean expression. Seriously. To me, I take it as her being deaf, dumb and stupid.
Talk to the manager/owner and he'll just tell you this world needs to be a better place. Not exactly what I want to hear after being treated with complete disrespect. I don't need the staff to force feed me their liquor or "drinks". Another friend told me the wine was terrible. Staff acts like high school brats with their fingers in their ears.

Great vibe here. Love this place -- very nice vibe, good music. But filled with "unpretentious brooklynites" -- isn't that a contradiction in terms??? :D

Akin to a smoky beatnik bar in Montparnasse, French-owned-and-operated Zebulon offers free experimental live jazz and blues nightly by mind-blowing local musicians and drop-ins by the occasional vagabond. The decor feels fresh with a smattering of old jazz concert posters and album covers. Perch atop a bar stool or sit at a stage-side tables for an unfettered view of the action. On any given night, the room is packed with lively, unpretentious Brooklynites, ranging from young-ish record store geeks to veteran jazz zealots. There is a full bar and healthy range of beers, but opt for a reasonably priced glass or bottle from the extensive French wine list.…

neighbourhood hang out with a very friendly ambiance and a confortable and authentic setting (you would think it has been here for ages).....I have never been disappointed going to Zebulon, nor my friends because everybody seems to be there for a good reason, listening to great music. I usually check who's playing, for he night, on their website (zebuloncafeconcert) but if I am to lazy for company I just listen to their radio that plays the show live.....

great place, great music!. Living in the West Village, I had never been to Zebulon before I went for a friends birthday last week. The place has a great vibe with great music, and the staff were very accomodating to us. We had people drinking beer, wine, and mixed drinks, and we experienced none of the service problems others have posted about. Our server was a nice friendly, helpful guy. The appetizers were great, we had the Radish bowl and the Cheese plate, and all was good...I will definitely go back!…
