Editorial Review for Jolie – by Erin Behan

The Scene
From the enthusiastic greeting of "Bonjour!" at the door to the playful prints of French ladies dotting the walls, there's nothing shy about this bistro. Behind the curved marble bar lies the small dining room with striking red banquette seating. Service is friendly, if sometimes overeager.

The Food
Heed this advice: the more French the dish, the better the experience. Forego the less-impressive crab cake pyramid in favor of snails in mushroom caps, generously bathed in garlic and parsley, or the savory oxtail terrine, which seduces with complex texture and flavors. Among entrees, the tender hanger steak--heavy with the taste of shallots--is even more pleasing when paired with a side of sauteed spinach. The seafood-heavy bouillabaisse puts most to shame, though the lamb shank is bland. Do not miss the crepes suzette, which end the meal on a high note.

Insider Tips

What to Drink

White wines are listed from fresh to aromatic and reds as light- to full-bodied. There's also a list of organics under the heading "Wine Not." Try the $24 bottle of Verget du Sud from Vaucluse; the pocketbook-friendly wine, with touches of spice and berry, holds up well to the rich fare.

When to Go

Among other offerings, find eggs Benedict and corned beef hash at brunch, served 11am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Where to Sit

Dine alfresco on the sizeable outdoor patio.

I've been here a couple times, and live very close. The place always looks friendly and inviting. The food was very good! Delicious, fresh, nice presentation. I've always had good experiences with the service, friendly and fairly attentive. Good drinks. Pricey, but all around a nice dining experience.

Pros: delicious, pretty ambiance, romantic, good service

Cons: pricey

2 Star Rating: Below Average

I'll be honest, this is my second time back to this restaurant because the first time wasn't so bad and my girlfriend liked the decor. The second time back was just a big disappointment. Despite the fact that it's a quiet week night and the restaurant half full, our food still took for about 30 minutes after the appetizers were served. When the food finally came, it was served half warm. I was so irritated at this point, I just wanted to get the check and get outta there before I curse someone out. And when we go the check, we were charged for something we did not order (over $25 dollars worth). I would recommend Burger King or other Take-out over this place.

Pros: Pretty looking

Cons: Terribe service
