What People Are Saying About Baked

Red Hook has always felt a little like the Wild West, and this spinoff of Manhattan's Chocolate Bar incorporates a modern lodge aesthetic. The walls are paneled with light wood and painted a rich brown. White subway tiles get orange grout, and a trippy deer-inspired "mirror" and brilliant chandelier frame the counter teaming with freshly baked goods. Some stop by for a nicely foamed cup of cappuccino, a creamy hot chocolate or a robust cup of Gorilla coffee, but they're missing this quaint bakeshop's heavenly desserts. The moist cupcakes, topped with sweet icing, rival any of the city's…

Best Chocolate Chunk Cookie I've Ever Had

by verybecca at Citysearch

I'm so sick of these crappy bakeries with beautiful but gummy cookies. I don't want poor excuses for pastries made with fake, vegan margarine that tastes like bird feed. Gimme butter. Gimme chocolate. Gimme Baked. They seriously have the BEST chocolate chunk cookie I've ever had. They do not mess around. It's a problem for me and my waistline.

  • Pros: Great baked stuff, real ingredients
  • Cons: All the way in Red Hook

Try the sweet and salty cupcakes

by scarlett7477 at Citysearch

Very charming, hip atmosphere, fun merchandise to take home, and (most importantly) almost everything I've eaten there has been perfection. The icing is not overly sweet, the flavor combinations are creative, and the presentation is beautiful. The cakes are a little expensive. I got the red velvet cake for a birthday party and was a little disappointed; although it was still very good, for the price I was hoping to be blown away. Still, if you are in Red Hook, you should definitely stop by.

  • Pros: Atmosphere, cookies, cupcakes
  • Cons: Long lines -- but that shows you how good it is.

Costly "Cake Box" Cakes

by yumcity at Citysearch

Was impressed with the unusual taste combos, thought I thought the place was more about hype than quality. It's definitely a cool place to be and eat, though I could "take or leave" the cakes. Most have a real cake-box taste to them. For the price, I expected something more. I really like the Red Velvet from Bone Lick Park (in the city) instead.

  • Pros: Cool place to be seen, Hip Bakery
  • Cons: High Cake Cost, Cake-mix Taste
