Brooklyn >Frankies 457 Spuntino
“standard food good atmosphere.”
“The house wine was more than acceptable, the gnocchi perfectly cooked and flavorful and the dessert, totally scrumptious.”
“The wine was good, the place was warm & comforting but Frankie's is seriously overrated.”
“The food is great, and the menu is arranged so you can order multiple things and share.”
“We heard such great things about this place, but the service was atrocious and the food was merely mediocre.”
“But even if it had been the best food I'd ever tasted, I would never go back there thanks to the horrible service.”
“The food and service is consistently good.”
“The prices are reasonable - if you aren't hungry and don't mind your $8-10 plates coming with two bites on it.”
“The waiters are terribly slow and aloof.”
How far can a well-made meatball take you? If accompanied by other straight-up Italian-American standards, pretty far. In the case of Frankie's Spuntino, it's launched a whole mini-chain, all of which share the virtues of the original: honest, well-made food, inexpensive wines, and a more-than-solid cocktail program.
standard food good atmosphere.. Washingtonian. Atmosphere, Decor and lighting provided a good start to the overall. The food was classic standard. We ordered the avocado and pesto crostini to start with a half bottle of red. An entree of home made Cavatelli with Faiccos Hot Sausage & browned Sage Butter - 15 - is the best Italian dish I have had out in a year. Take the F or G to Caroll Street and one block over to Court. Make left and walk down 4 blocks.
best local restaurant!.
I can't get enough of the cavetelli!!!! mmmm
love this place, great vibe....did I mention the cavatelli?
How obnoxious is this restaurant?.
Long gone are the 90s when it was cool to be snotty and ask patrons to dish out cash for horrible service and mediocre food. Get with the program. It's LOUD in that restaurant and the people who work there act like it's a privilege to eat with them. The waiter LEFT WHILE WE WERE ORDERING.... without saying a word. Just left the table. Came back and said.. "yea, and...?" WTF is that?
Also... where do they ship the people eating in there from?
I left work in midtown and met some friends there for a bite. I thought I would get a chance to relax. HA! Forget about relaxing at Frankies. I'm so over Frankies. I've been 10 times and I'm done. Each time it's consistently a nightmare and it's only gotten worse. Did you hear they are opening ANOTHER restaurant. Thanks to all the suckers that shelled out the CASH they are now opening a fourth restaurant.
And cash only? Get a credit card machine. It's 2008. I don't walk around with $300 cash in my pocket. It's suspect and speaks poorly of your restaurant.
My advice: Skip it. Go to Fragole instead. It's close to there and is consistently good. The service is amazing and the people who eat there are down to earth and don't think they rule the planet.
"the franks" have done a great job. This restaurant is a prime example of the manhattification/ snotification (do you like my terms) of this amazing neighborhood. You take this great restaurant with excellent food and pretty nice atmosphere and what happens is Kate Hudson, Leo Dicaprio shows up and whoever else and then the owners/ servers forget where they are and who they are there to serve. There is never an excuse for nasty servers or hosts no matter who is dining in your place. Old school Italians should know better. Overall I would tell people to come only for the food and if some snotty skinny little waitress catches an attitude you can politely remind her where she is and then go speak to the manager. Its worth trying though for sure.
Risky. If you get there before 5:30 (because after that the wait is like 2 hours), and the hostile host isn?t working (he?s really mean), and you like to sit and eat at the bar and the usual bartender isn?t in one of his depressed states... You might enjoy your meal. The menu is short and simple, hasn?t changed in 4 years, but has a few nice pasta dishes on it. The wine list is ok, more on the lame side if you like big reds. The only thing consistently good there is the music, that?s if you like outdated moody rock and roll. Which I do.
Rude. The food is pretty good but have some RESPECT for your customers. Everyone is RUDE here...bottom line!!!!!
GREAT food...CRAPPY service..
Just like the title says...The food was amazing...Order the Meatballs...Oh and the Gnocchi too..You'll be glad you did! INCREDIBLE.
But it was too slow...Had plenty of empty water glasses...Didn't get the check-in a few minutes after we started eating...Didn't get the fresh ground pepper and grated cheese either! Didn't even see our waitress after that...Then had some other waitress who was just as bitchy...When we paid our bill we were expecting change back. That took forever. When we looked over at the other waitress she was off talking to some other table..Was she expecting the 20 dollars to be left as the tip...I don't think so....
Hey maybe this place had an off night but I remember the last time I was here is was the same kind of thing.
This place has great food but bad service. It tries to make itself out as some kind of warm, neighborhood place...Not so...If you want some stupid Manhattan attitude then go for it...Other wise you can also try Fragole up the street...The food and service is consistently good...
Frankie if you are reading this: Great work on the Food...But lose the Manhattan attitude...C'mon back to Brooklyn!
Yum.. YUM. I have so much to say about Frankies.... Their Lamb Ragu with homemade Papparadelle finds its way into my dreams. I can no longer eat pasta anywhere else, because I feel like I am cheating on Frankie's yumminess. I live on the block...so everyone I take there, ends up inviting themselves over, just so they can have a dinner at Frankies. Grilled Vegetable Salad is incredible too! Enjoy!
I had to respond to this person's review.
I was with the party that was told there would be a three hour wait after being told on the phone that at an arrival at 7:15 would assure us seats. I read the review that Brooklyn Foody posted and I had to respond. Frankly, I find your review suspect. Do you work at this place? Are you the bearded a-hole that called us liars when we came there on Saturday. I find it hard to believe that a person who is unconnected to this restaurant would say that calling customers liars and giving them a THREE Hour wait time is nit- picky. That is unacceptable in anyone's book.
We have eaten at this place before and I agree that the food is excellent. In fact, the quality of the food is the only reason we decided to come here again since the service the first time was sub par. As far as I'm concerned the hardest part of making a successful restaurant should be making good food. Even in New York treating people decently shouldn't be a an extra special service.
To everyone else out there, this place stinks and don't give them your business.
ENOUGH WITH THE NEGATIVITY!!! FRANKIES IS GREAT!!!.
I cant believe some of these negative reviews!!!! I have been dinning at Frankies 457 on Court Street for the last three years and I love it dearly. I'm confident that I have a good grasp on the the great and the just ok of the place and it is beyond me how people can be so nit-picky about a small neighborhood restaurant.
Bottom line, I'm a pretty well seasoned diner (No pun intended) and I can say that there are too many high maintenance people out there. The food is fresh and prepared perfectly for my tastes as well as all of the guests I have ever brought here. I challenge anyone to find better meatballs out there, or cavatelli, or salads. Furthermore, the staff is great, they have always been cool with me and everyone I have sent to Frankies. PEOPLE HAVE TO STOP GIVING GOOD RESTAURANTS A BAD NAME FOR STUPID REASONS
