What People Are Saying About Bozu
The Owner
Bozu
Owner
Bozu's signature dish is its bomb sushi, so named for its spherical form and small size-a one-bite challenge to American behemoths. you shoot them in your mouth like a bomb, says owner Makoto Suzuki, who tints his sushi rice pink with codfish roe and red with cabbage.

Snack-sized portions are the name of the game at this funky joint, whose interior, exposed brick, charred bamboo and Eames-style chairs, is as distinctive as the eats.
-Daily News-
Even the most jaded of hipsters are raving about Bozu (pronounced "bose"), the three-week-old Japanese restaurant located on a burgeoning strip of Grand Street. Of all five of these Brooklyn eateries, Bose is the only one where the design, the music and the food all work together - to startling effect.

The Scene
The facade of dark wood beams hints at monastic simplicity, but this raw fish and sake joint is a bit more jumbled inside. Brick walls, mod white plastic tables and a curtain of strung Japanese figurines ring the perimeter, while a large three-sided bar sits right in the middle. The crowd can be sparse, but the staff is energetic and knowledgeable.
The Food
Clean, strong flavors prevail in the largely seafood-based tapas, among them a tuna tartare with a light mustard sorbet, and a vibrant ceviche of scallops and salmon over fanned avocado. Layered "bombs," a circular riff on sushi, hold such morsels as rich white tuna with ginger sauce, and a delectable eel topped with minty shiso. Seaweed salad and Japanese pickles, and the occasional special of a succulent barbecued rib, nicely complement the fish. Desserts change weekly and include unusual items like panna cotta with sweet red beans.

all foods are very good and creative yet stay with original Japanese food. Service is very good and price is reasonable. I can relax there and have a good time with my friends and boyfriend. I definitely go back there!

Cute place. 2 worst mojitos, EVER. Indescribable. Edamame tasted like pop corn. Was perhaps buttered. The second bowl for throwing away the peels still had old food bits in it. Bad sign. Extremely sweet service. Couldn't make ourselves tell them the food absolutely sucked. Which is maybe why we got: "Japanese curry" which was essentially bland, chewy stew splashed on some rice. Bozu style sushi, which means it had none of the essentials (ginger - soy sauce was pre-wasabified, which I actually kinda liked). Personally sort-of liked the sushi, but we found the use of long grain rice a bit, uhm, surprising. Most puffy rolls we've ever experienced. At least it was fresh. Bozu Salad tasted exactly like Armani Eau De Toilette smelled in the 80's. Somewhat disturbing. Was one of these places where you just can't wait to get out. It was just all wrong - but I completely disagree that the service was bad.. I felt a bit bad for the service staff in fact, that is, until I saw the check.

it's friday and almost midnight. my bf and i go to bozu to eat. we live in williamsburg/greenpoint, so it was with some trepidation we ventured out on a friday in our own 'hood, but we were hungry and wanted to try Bozu as it was recommended to us. "Two"...."we cant seat you inside"....."what about that four-top over there"....."No it's friday night"...."huh? the street's empty, nobody's coming" "No (with annoying smile)...... what? "Ok, later lady...." Note to Bamboozle: give up a table for two paying customers at midnight....if a four party comes in, put them outside, or at the table that would have opened by the time they MAYBE came in. seriously, you just lost a local customer and ANYONE i will tell about your restaurant. I wouldnt really care if it werent for the smarmy sh^t eating grin you served it to me with. Welcome to MY neighborhood, now please leave with the rest of the clowns who've invaded with you.....
