Worst Dining experience Ever !!!.
Worst dining experience ever!!!
This place is truly a “hole-in-da-wall” with sub par service.
The only thing that’s remotely palatable about Pequena is their breakfast burrito which they only serve on Sat/Sun. I dine out a lot, way more than I would like to admit; and I especially love small quaint neighborhood eateries but unfortunately Pequena doesn’t fit this description at all. I live in the area so I felt compelled to try it out a couple of times, each time leaving grossly disappointed. The food sucks, drinks are watered down and the service is deplorable not to mention there are flies everywhere!!!
Considering there so many other great options in the neighborhood they will definitely never see me again.
Tiny place. Tiny kitchen. Busy. Great Food!!.
Wanted to go there the other night as I hadn't been in many months and have always loved the food. But, my "old lady" wanted to go to Pacifico instead and we were in that neighborhood anyway. I was curious and had remembered hearing good things, so we ate there. Long story short; Krappy! Will give that review on the Pacifico page. So, to fill my desire for that type of Mexican food that Pequena and Pacifico both serve, we went to Pequena last night. What a difference!!! Margarita; Very good! Limey, strong, not too sweet and came without salt, the way I ordered it (seems a very hard thing to get; the last 2 margs. I've ordered [at Bonita, then Pacifico] both "rocks, NO salt", came with salt!! Then they got poured into new glasses, taking a noticeable amount of the salt with them into the new glass!).......OK, back to PQ.....Guacamole; still some of the best I've ever had in a restaurant and a very generous portion! Chips are always great here too! Then, the Black Bean and Plantain Quesadilla; LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Then, the caesar with shredded pork! I'm a caesar salad person and could eat it every day. ALso, I don't like when it's 'f'd' with, but this one's good. and fresh. and big. and you can get shredded pork on top! keep your pallid chicken breast for the next dieter, please; i will take my pig chunks instead! Oh yeah, and the pico de gallo also kicked the butt of the one at Pacifico!
So, I've seen this place get KRAZY with tables, walk-in's, deliveries, phone calls, etc. As, I've said, it's tiny and i can see how it can get overwhelmed and take a while for food, etc.
But, damn if I didn't LOVE EVERY SINGLE BITE of my food there last night and every slurp of tequila-lime-icy-no-salt goodness!!!
They made a pregnant woman cry she waited so long for food!. Listen, if you're going to make me wait over an hour for a quesadilla, just tell me when I walk in so I can leave immediately! Not only was the owner dismissive each time we (and the three tables near us) inquired where our food was, but they didn't bring chips or anything to nibble on until 5 min. before our food finally came out. A pregnant woman's husband asked several times if they could have something while they waited, and his wife was literally crying she was so hungry and they left after about 45 minutes! We almost left when over an hour later our two simple dishes arrived, and then I had the weirdest conversation I've had in a long time. I guess the owner was trying to make up for the absurd time it took to bring our food, so first she said she'd comp the meal. Trying to be polite I said "oh, you don't have to do that," so she says "do you guys come here often?" Being honest we say "this is our first time here," and what does the owner do? She brings back a check with one meal on it? Huh? What?! So if we were regulars who waited that long you'd comp us, but because you figure this was so screwed up that we won't return, you adjust the check back up? Well, mission accomplished lady. Never, ever will I recommend Pequena!
Great food good price.
The food is so affordable here that it shocks me that anyone would complain about the price? Where are you comparing Pequena to? McDonald's Dollar Meal? Brunch is $7. It costs only a little more than those Dominican places you used to see all over and is quite good. I'm a former Angeleno and this is about as close as I have gotten in the city to not being embarrassed to be seen eating Mexican while living here.
It is, however, SMALL, esp. by Brooklyn standards, so get there early.
Mediocre in spite of popularity and veneer of cuteness.
The food is pretty good, but everything's about a dollar or two more than it should be. And nothing on the menu is spicy enough. And if you place an order to go, they might tell you they're too busy to walk the three steps it takes to bring you your food outside. As a former waiter, I have sympathy for someone genuinely in the weeds, but I also know that the extra seconds of effort are not too much to expect.
There's much better Mexican food on 5th Ave in Brooklyn.
Best Mexican in Ft Greene. I love Mexican food. I lived in Mexico for a year, I've traveled all over and when this spot opened up I was encouraged by the funky decor, Oaxacan figures, Day of the dead, mexican tile, lots of bright colors, but i was worried to try thr food. It was delicious. I've had the black bean and plantain quesadillas, the chicken enchiladas with green sauce, the pork tostada(authentic slow cooked stewed pork, delicious) and the chili rellenos. Everything was excellent and big portions too. Also, brunch is so busy everywhere but even though the place is small I always get a seat there. The margaritas are fresh lime juice even the frozen ones. For a small place this one has big flavors.
Delicious Mexican. I go to Pequena on a weekly basis and have never experienced bad service or lousy food-everything has always been fresh and delicious. The decor is cute and fun, the margaritas refreshing, and the chicken tortilla soup is a must! In addition, you can fill up on around $8.
A plate of 2 tacos a la carte is $5.00 and a dinner plate of 3 tacos, with rice and beans, is $10.00. I didn't want the rice and beans, but I did want 3 tacos, which I figured I could have for $7.50, by purchasing an extra taco for what seems the going rate, $2.50. However, 3 tacos a la carte is "not on the menu," neither are single tacos. It wasn't possible to accomodate my choice, they said, in a rude and quarrelsome manner, even though it admittedly "sounded ridiculous." Her words, not mine. That's because it is ridicilous. So they want my business only under one of two conditions? $5.00 or $10.00, but not $7.50? Be serious.
For the record, this was not the first time the service at Pequena was either presumptuous--on another occasion a server rounded my change down by nearly a dollar, because they didn't have the proper coinage, instead of assuming the burden of their own mistake--or just plain non-existent, to the point of actually taking offense at asking for their help. This would be excusable to some extent if they had a product that warranted the attitude, but they don't. The food as well is a European's idea of Mexican food. Stay away at all cost.
Chips. Tiny place with great atmosphere. The food is consistent if not fantastic. Margaritas are great and the service is top notch. Order the chips!
Not bad, but not good.. After relocating to New York from the Midwest, we were in dire need of Mexican food. After a friend recommended this place, we finally decided to check it out. The overall atmosphere was great, but the food was subpar. The chips and pico were good, but not having queso on the menu is a minus. Our meals were good, but not as "great" and "wonderful" as the reviews on here would lead one to believe.
