Editorial Review for The Yoga Lab – by Drew Pisarra
The Scene
Owner Ingrid Gayle wisely hired artist Betty Martin to decorate the interior of her roomy facility. The lobby--which doubles as retail space--takes its color flourishes and neo-plasticism a la Mondrian up the walls and onto the ceiling. Continue past the modernist fountain, and a stone-lined ramp will guide you to one of two studios, painted Tuscany-vibrant shades of amber and blue, respectively. There are small changing stalls and bathrooms, and clothes can be stored in the cubbyholes located in each studio.
The Workout
With reinforced, soundproofed walls, you can do your inversions without worrying about doing damage or making a loud noise should you slam your feet above you as you get into a headstand. In accordance with the eternal quest to honor both Shiva and Shakti, the staff has a nice balance of teachers of both genders.

I am not a pro on yoga and have only been to a few studios but one thing that I am good at is knowing good stuff! My experience was very special. Even though I went alone, I felt like I was with friends by the end of my class. I suffer from a lot of back stuff and sometimes I have to take a break. The teacher I had really helped me identify ways to deepen my practice without subjecting myself to more injuries. The girl behind the desk heard the teacher and I talking and gave me some info on a doctor she highly recommended, who I am now working with on a consistent basis. This kind of care was lovely to experience. In addition, the energy of the place was very calming and nurturing. Thank you Yoga Lab!
Pros: Great instructors, beautiful atmosphere, quiet
Cons: N/A

no more free mats ($1 now) & daytime classes are now $12! i've practiced here for years, since 2005, but the place has been filthy recently...freezing cold (one of the employees told me half the place has no heat!), disorganized, dirty blankets & props, nasty floors, clueless front desk staff, cancelled classes or last-minute substitute teachers...apparently, the owner left town a couple of months ago & it shows! the teaches are still wonderful, but sadly, i'm moving on to another studio!
Pros: great teachers, great memories
Cons: dirty, cold, disorganized
