“would highly recommend this store to anyone looking for great clothing, great advice, and a relaxing atmosphere outside the city hustle.”
“local bar serves better drinks (ours were god awful) and the service is much friendly!”
“As I walked into "butter" there was this fresh, clean modern vibe.”
“As a person who works in the fashion industry and shops for a living I have to say that Butter has the best selections of merchandise I come across in any of the five boroughs.”
“But overall, I would say this is one of my favorite NY stores and worth the trip to Brooklyn.”
“think it is important to also engage with the sales staff if you want service, they usually leave you alone because they don't want to be on your back, but they will offer knowledgeable service if you work with them.”
“They want you to believe they are doing YOU a favor by letting them and their overpriced merchandise grace your presence.”
Good shop for good clothing. I like this store because of the great selection of things they have, easy yet fashionable clothes, different but not too edgy. Contrary from other reviewers, I thought the sales staff were quite friendly, they even offered me a cup of tea and a heath bar! I think it is important to also engage with the sales staff if you want service, they usually leave you alone because they don't want to be on your back, but they will offer knowledgeable service if you work with them. I got many things from Eva Gentry over the years that I wear over and over again, so even though the things are pricey, you buy a few key pieces that you wear all the time.
Eva Gentry Consignment Rates One of a Kind!.
I am reluctant to share this gem of a shop with others because Eva Gentry consignment resale clothes are so carefully selected, whether it be 1930'3, 1940's, or 1950's Vintage; hard to find pieces that may be the early designs of some of the best in clothing names, or recent picks of top designers, I have found them here and grabbed them up. I stop in every few weeks, always finding some 'must have' item. I live in Manhattan and make the trip here because it's "worth" it!
Pros: Great and varied selection, priced right, high quality clothes, clean clothing
A fun shopping experience. I have been reading about Butter Eva Gentry in alot of fashion blogs lately. I went to check out the store last week in Brooklyn. I have to say I had a great experience. The clothing selection was great, but what really blew me away was the jewelry. I found an amazing ring by a designer called Rosa Maria. I had a good time with the staff. The one guy that works in the store wears skirts!!!! I was helped by a wonderful sales girl named Jeorgea, she could not have been more patient. Great shop!!!! When your in that neighborhood check out all the great furniture shops too.
Excellent selection of designer clothing and hard to find goods. Many stores carry Dries, Marni, Ann, Margiela, and Rick Owens. However, what sets Butter apart from other stores is that, you can always be sure to find sensible yet clever selection from these avant-garde designers. The owners Eva and Gentry carefully curated a collection of clothes that is special and yet, well, what I personally say "can still wear twice a week". In addition are books and candles that you can't find anywhere else. Knowledgeable staff and great service. Highly recommend.
Beautiful jewelry and effortlessly hip clothes - surly service.
I think Butter stocks some of the best jewelry in NY. It's expensive but worth the splurge. However, I really do wish that they would put the prices with the pieces, it's always such a pain to have to ask the slightly scary sales ladies (particularly the small olive skinned one, with wavy brown bobbed hair) as they have to get out a binder to look them up, and when you're interested in more than one piece, this gets aggravating for both involved. I think they would sell far jewelry that way - as I know I personally would have bought more.
As for the clothes, they're lovely. Classic , hip pieces in neutral tones. I do think a little color wouldn't go amiss and maybe they could think about featuring a few newer or hipper designers. But overall, I would say this is one of my favorite NY stores and worth the trip to Brooklyn. (BTW, it's in Boerum Hill, NOT Brooklyn Heights. Take the AC to Hoyt Schermerhorn and take the Bond St. exit).
cheerful and happy.
WOW! I LOVE this store. I have been shopping @ butter for years and what an improvement. This store
has come along way. I am very friendly with all the girls that work at butter and they are really happy with the
"new" of the store. Love the photo's on the wall and the rare/vintage books on the grand wood book shelf.
There is something for everyone here. The owner is one in a million and her "new" husband - what a doll.
Have fun shopping at butter.
what happened... to butter?. The owners/sisters of butter. Well, both have amazing style! It is style that one is born with. I like to visit just to see what the sisters are wearing... BUT the sister with blonde hair WHAT HAPPENED??? you look like any goth chick on the street in the e.village just better quality... and your sister - not a word spoken about her. What a shame. The clothes are still beautiful but the energy of the shop is just not real anymore. I am truly sorry. I am a fashion writer and I hope this little gem of a store does not turn into another boring trendy concept. But I am afraid it already has - by just the pictures on the wall.
Butter is Fabulous!. I love to shop and have done my far share of it and Butter rates right up there as a wonderful experience! The store is bright and airy with a fabulous collection of womens clothes and accessories. I liked the feel of the store as soon as I walked in! The staff and on sight owners were a pure pleasure. I've just recently found this store (last 4 months) and am so glad to have wondered in! I will be coming back here often because I see so many good things happening here. . lots of unique pieces and their desire to please me as a customer . .bravo and all the best to Eva and Gentry!
a breath of fresh air!.
As I walked into "butter" there was this fresh, clean modern vibe. It is a very easy place to shop, and they have
all of my favorite designers. IE: Rick Owens, Marni, Dries van Noten and many more. The jewelry is so lovely and simple. Every one was very helpful (including the new guy, yes the new guy). I am a huge shopper and I was able to find the best of the best at this store on Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn. O' yes, they also
have the BEST consignment store I have ever been to - I walked out of there with bags full of goodies...Butter and Consignment are really worth the trip over the bridge. Take a look, you won't be sorry! : o )
Well curated fashion and beautiful merchandising. I recently moved back to the neighborhood after several years and rediscovered Butter. It has always been a great asset to the area, but they really seem to have stepped up their game since the last time I visited (probably two years ago at least). The store is designed and merchandised beautifully, and the clothing itself is has been carefully selected with only the 'best' pieces from each designer's collection making it to these well-curated racks. The staff was friendly (they even offered me hot jasmine tea!) and extremely knowledgeable about every piece in the store. I asked some pretty specific questions but they were very patient and attentive, even though I told them I wasn't ready to buy anything that day. It seems like the kind of place I'll be coming back to again and again, even just to hang out and talk with people who know and LOVE good design as much as I do.
