The best kind of hardware store
by unamericain at Citysearch
Have been a customer since I moved to the area about five years ago. It's a laid-back, neighborly place where I sometimes go just to find out the latest news about the block. The staff is always helpful and never, ever condescending. They have most any kind of general hardware a person would need, like C clamps, rodent traps and super glue and even sell things like metric bolts. And let's get this part straight: they are ALWAYS playing much better music in there than they're ever playing down at the Home Depot.
Right across from the Washington Avenue end of the Clinton-Washington stop on the C train.

We've lived a block away from this place the past year and many a time it has come in handy having these people so close. We've bought paint there (they sell Benjamin Moore paint, as well as a cheaper off-brand) paint supplies, mouse-traps, picture hanging supplies, keys, a plumber wrench, wood screws...the list goes on. Although they are quick to help and answer questions they don't do that condescending "What can I help you with?" when a woman comes in - which is the response I seem to get at every g*****n hardware store in new york

All of the staff are extremely knowledgeable, and if they don't know something they will be happy to find out for you. When they didn't have what I needed they were also willing to tell me about other stores that would have what I was looking for, or if I had the time, they would order it for me. Located in the heart of Clinton Hill, it's a gem on Fulton Street and a much-needed establishment for the neighborhood.
