Brian Scott Cohen / Wells Fargo = BEST MORTGAGE in BROOKLYN
by JakeCooney at Citysearch
After years of dealing with banks and big corporations, I have become a very discerning -- if not difficult -- customer. When my wife and I decided to re-finance our mortgage for our Manhattan co-op, I was THAT guy. I called dozens of brokers and mortgage companies until I found the best rate, and THEN, I negotiated. Brian Scott Cohen at Wells Fargo offered the best rate and at first I thought he might be a young slickster but I have never been more wrong. Guiding us through every step of the process, Brian kept his promises including: rate locks, costs, and discounts. When things slowed up in the processing end, he reached out on our behalf. At closing, he calmly answered all our questions and resolved every problem. In the end, he even paid a $300 discount out of his own pocket. All along the way, this gentleman taught me a thing about trust and in the process, renewed my faith in people. Trust me, you can trust this guy. Good luck, Jake Cooney
- Pros: Great rate and honest, fair treatment...
FIRST TIME BUYER AMAZING EXPERIENCE
by StbiB at Citysearch
I have read many reviews online and do not usually post. I read the last review about a first time home buyer not having a great experience and I felt ours was amazing it needed to be shared. Brian, really goes the extra mile. He came to my office to first meet and take our application. He upfront gave us a time line for the loan process and was right on target. We heard all these nighmare stories and we are so glad we Had Brian to take great care of us. As first time buyer we were nervous. He walked us through the process and made it so easy and a pleasurable experience. I suggest to him to all first time buyers. We actually were invited to see him do a seminar as well. We learned a lot through the process. Do not believe any negative reviews he truly was one of a kind.....

Not very professional

Wells Fargo is already known for their inefficiency and disorganization. Unfortunately, Brian Cohen was no exception to their bad reputation.
As a first time buyer in a tough market where securing financing is more complicated than ever, I was relying on Brian to help navigate and he was not helpful at all.
His arrogance could have been tolerated if he delivered on his cocky attitude, however he gave inconsistent and sometimes incorrect information, and his responses to questions were distracted and incomplete and usually issued in a hurry from his Blackberry.
It took repeated requests to get him to lay out the simple financial structure of the mortgage, he didn't ask any of the right questions to truly understand my needs and was barely willing to have those discussions.
Example: When it came time to lock in a rate he made it way more stressful and confusing than it had to be. After a significant jump in rates, he notified me via a one sentence email (from his Blackberry) asking if I wanted to lock in the high rate that day - no discussion of my timeline or strategy. He reluctantly accepted my phone call and claimed he had no procedure for communicating rates to clients and sent me to the Wells Fargo web site to monitor rates. On a subsequent call he informed me that the rates on the site were not accurate for my situation. Gee, thanks Brian.
Upon escalating the various issues with Brian to his boss, the service got marginally better. But Brian still seems like a young, self-interested broker looking for volume, not long-term clients. I would strongly suggest that first-time buyers avoid him and go with a more seasoned professional.
- Pros: eventually got the deal done
- Cons: inconsistent, gave misinformation, unhelpful, arrogant
