The Ultimate Hipster Haircutters. I've been going to Robert and Dawn for two years now and can only recommend them. Robert is a veteran of the industry and arrived at a point a few years ago where he can call his own shots and run things the way he likes them, which is small, personal and very detail oriented. He's a great intuitive cutter - I've been amazed by how he works with hair - from short to long - with an incredible flair. He also knows EXACTLY what color you need and it looks like the color you were born with, only better. Always very tastful and natural. I trust him implicitly with my hair. I went to him on a recommendation from a friend and have since recommended him to several people. He cuts a lot of creative people in the neighborhood and is sharp, sophisticated and very knowledgeable about the design world, developments in the neighborhood and always fun to chat with while he cuts your hair. Hip, and down to earth at the same time.

Nice People, Mediocre Hair Expertise. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE HERE. It led me to spending hundreds trying to correct it. Robert & Dawn were nice - albeit a tad snooty. There is definitely pressure to purchase more - whether it's more highlights, a blowout, a haircut, a color ... etc. I went in with the most basic of requests, and it was like I was speaking a foreign language. I, at times, felt as though I were in a twighlight zone. I KNEW my request was easy/simple - one that countless hair dressers have done over & over again - and yet, it seemed puzzling at this salon. The job was botched, and the quick-fix looked ridiculous, and I was left with zebra stripes. When I expressed my disapproval, I was told that to fix it, I would have to pay more. Last time I checked, when you are unhappy with a service at a salon, it's their job to fix it - without cost. I mean, I went in for a service, and that service was not performed as planned. Not to mention, I should've never had to pay for the quick-fix, since it wasn't even needed prior to the botched dye job. All in all, I was very displeased with my experience at jet set. I'd recommend visiting for a blowout, and that's pretty much it. The highlighting job was amateur-like, and my color was so horrendous - I had black roots w/ blonde tips. It totally damaged my hair. Eventually I had to go elsewhere, whereas the stylist couldn't believe how crappy the color was. What should've been a 15 min hair touch up, turned into hundreds of dollars spent on correcting my color. I am very loyal to my hairdresser, and had they pleased me - they would've had a big-spending client for life.

Feel relaxed and gorgeous.. Was slightly intimidated by the sleek interior, but the kindness of the host and owners set me at ease. Robert and Dawn Cavale are as elegant as their storefront, yet friendly and knowledgeable. I got an amazing shampoo from Dawn that nearly put me to sleep and then Robert gave me some beautiful highlights while talking about what we might do later. It's difficult for me to find stylists who understand what I'm trying to say about cuts or color, and I felt confident in Robert's skills and the way he listened. Highly recommended!

**Plus, there's great Thai food next door at Teeda (despite the muzak).

Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. Salon keeps it simple with cuts and color. Sells handbags and hair products from Mop, C System and more.

Affordable Chic in Bklyn. Tho' you might not beleive that you can find an affordable haircut on the B61 route to Red Hook, the Jet Set Salon is a little gem in the middle of the burgeoning "Columbia Street Waterfront." With a light, airy and aromatic atmosphere, Robert and Dawn, owners of Jet Set, set the space and pace at this chic, but not too too trendy, relaxing hot spot in the heart of "the other side" of Red Hook. A cut at $65 is more than affordable and color runs by process, also in the very affrodable range.
