Great Russian cafe. I've been coming here for years and still love it. But unfortunatly it has been going downhill. I've watched the prices rise, the portions decrease, and the service plummet.

There are usually two waiters here, which I can only describe as polar opposites, even down to the hair. So forgive the crudeness, but the waiter who is more follicly challenged is a downright bad waiter. Not a smile, not a hello. Just sort of storms in and out of your brief table experience, always leaving a negative aftertaste. On one occasion he berated the busgirl right in the dining room for all to hear. Simply appalling. I cannot understand why he still works there.

The other gentleman is very sweet and catering, and is always attentive to your needs. So depending on who you get, that's your rating right there.

Apart from the service, the food was and is exceptionally good. Very authentically prepared by Russian cooks that are clearly seen in the kitchen (a big plus!). The big minus is the horrendous existence and constant use of microwaves, as well as the aweful blaring distraction of several wall mounted TVs. Big faux pas!

Still, this place sees its packed days where the lines form for the great soups, seafood platters, and real taste of blini with caviar. Don't forget the sirniki - baked farmer's cheese pillows of sweetness, that used to come as 3 with fresh berries and chocolate sauce, but now sadly just a pair with a dollop of tasteless sour-cream.
