favorite spot. clean, delicious food, delicious drink! bartenders are very friendly even when their busy
Not going back. After 2 years in the nabe, went there today with a big group from my son's school to celebrate his graduation. Service oscillated between bad and downright hostile, acoustics is horrible, room we were in is really loud, they never brought us the salad that was on the pre-paid menu and most importantly - food was completely bland, a tasteless chicken (I can get a better half-chicken for $6 at a hole in the wall in Newark); my wife's risotto was tasteless. And no one ever came around to ask her if she needed grated cheese - as a matter of fact, I almost had to get into an argument to get us a soda and a drink.
New Fav!.
Went with coworkers one evening for drinks but we ended up ordering appetizers which were excellent. The crab cakes, butternut squash soup and cheese platter were very good and the service was more than on point.
They have 3 different seating areas, from the bar scene in the fron, the more romantic seating area in the back and outside seating as well. Cozy and social place In Bay Ridge to become a regular, that's for sure!
Great neighborhood staple.
Normally I don't write reviews on sites like this but after reading that last review and being a loyal patron of Cebu for 8 or 9 years now I was bothered by it. They have good food, friendly service, and nice decor.
The previous reviewer seems to be a racist liar more then an appreciative diner. What's wrong with Mexican people working in the kitchen? Last time I checked 90% of the restaurants in NYC have mexican people working in the kitchen. The way they ramble on youd think that they would have had their car stolen that same night and blamed it on Cebu! lol
Anyways I highly recommend Cebu whether you're from Bay Ridge or not. I love the pork chop and their french onion soup is pretty good also. My boyfriend likes their tuna with seaweed salad.
Third times the charm... NOT!. Let's see, where do I start with this awful excuse of a restaurant. The first time I went to Cebu was in 2007 and I thought ok maybe the kitchen staff had an off day. Nonetheless, I blocked that out of my mind. The second time I went there was with some friends, summer of 2010... the appetizer and entree didn't seem to sit well with me. I had diarrhea for the next two days. That should of warned me never to go back, but stupid me... I got suckered into going by my girlfriend who wanted to go to a hip hangout type of restaurant on her friend's recommendation. I warned her of my previous experience but again, men are dumb when it comes to woman and their persuasion. The third time was far from being anything but pleasant. Overcrowded, the wait was ridiculous, way to loud, to many meat head italian Gombas mixed with the finest Coney Island Russian mob wannabes. The food this time was far from being a delight... it seemed like everything prepared on our plates were thrown together by a short order cook. What do you expect from "Chefs" who are illegal mexicans working in the kitchen. This is why we paid $40 head? are you kidding me? Well, saving the best for last... I saw a really nice sized cockroach in the bathroom; disgusting. I think the best part of the night was leaving the restaurant walking down 88th street toward 4th avenue, and observing a RAT scurrying the backside of the restaurant where the chefs take kitchen trash out. The trash is literally piled up on the outside wall of the kitchen... After getting sick twice and seeing the RAT, I can honestly say third time is definitely not a charm. Save yourself the time, potential ailment and go somewhere else. Thanks for reading.
great burger.
I have to admit I was a little confused as to what kind of restaurant it was by the different items that were on the menu, but once I got past that, all was good.
Cebu is a great bistro in the neighborhood that has a great hamburger that makes you forget the world!
Great Food, Cozy Atmosphere. The good food here keeps me coming back. There's a good gourmet quality to some standard dishes, and specials that often are over the top. Had the bone in rib eye last night that was one of the best I ever had. A few months back an awesome tile fish that was incredibly delicious. Drinks are pretty good, nice size and well made. I always hit Cebu when I need a feel good meal.
Pitiful Service, Solid Food, Avoid Large Parties.
I took my mom to Cebu for brunch yesterday (Mother's Day). In line with other reviews, the food was great, but we're talking embarrassing service here with no attention to the diner.
It took us about 15 minutes to even get acknowledged by our server (who was perfectly pleasant, just not attentive). I had to ask her as she served the large party next to us "are you our server?" Finally, she took our order.
The party of ten in the middle of the room ordered right as we got our food. When we were leaving, they still hadn't received their salads. The kitchen clearly broke down, and the server (also ours) barely said a word to them about it. That's a shame.
On the bright side: The egg, bacon, cheddar and avocado sandwich is a true feast for breakfast/brunch lovers.
On the darker side of things: It took over 20 minutes to get the check. I then had to chase her down just to get my card swiped. There are chronic service issues here.
What Cebu needs is a much higher attention to service. It's a flashy, nearly impeccable space (at least in the back and the expanded dining room), but the poor service and lack of any supervision (nobody seems to care that people are waiting endlessly for attention from the moment they walk through the door) doesn't match the packaging.
I will say the food here never disappoints. Just don't expect to be treated very well.
