“are you saying that the food is bad but I'll go back there because the atmosphere was good.”
“The food is hot, fresh and service fast.”
“Joya has some of the best food at some of the best prices in Brooklyn.”
“There is a bar right by the door, which is convenient while waiting in the long lines for a seat and be prepared to wait on the weekends.”
I have been coming to Joya for years because their food is good and cheap. However, their service is horrible, particularly from the guy who takes your name for a table. He is obnoxious and rude and just not worth the hassle. There are a million Thai restaurants in NYC so I don't understand why he thinks he can talk to people as if he couldn't care less whether they eat there or not. The place is extremely loud, doesn't take reservations (so the wait is always at least 30 min) and doesn't accept credit cards. The ONLY good thing is the food. Otherwise, just not worth the inconvenience and certainly not worth the verbal abuse you receive.
low budget meets great food. I can't really afford to dine out as often as I'd like however JOYA is one of those places were they really good food for anyone espcially someone like me who is on a tight budget
I'm a big thai fan, and I love curry, especially the yellow or massamune kind. This place has a nice atmosphere, decent service, and did I mention the curry? There's plenty to fill you up. All in all, from the many thai restaurants in the city, this one is definitely one of the better ones. Recommended!
good meat but salad wasnt too fresh. the toppings on the salad seemed a bit stale but the meat was alright. service was prompt and the atmosphere was fun, overall id come back but not in a rush.
great chicken, wonderfully seasoned!. the chicken here was delicious, the spices were fresh, and grilled to perfection. fun festive atmosphere check it out with friends.
food especially produce, by no means fresh. the food was subpar, the mangos and salad were by no means fresh at all definitely thumbs down :(
Beware of the host / manager - he is a real prick.
It used to be one of our favorite places in Bk... until last night.
We arrived to a crowded Joya and were told by the host that there would be a 30/45 min wait. After an hour spent by the entrance, we approached the host / manager to inquire as to when we would be seated, as the initially announced time has already passed. His response was quite surprising - he replied that he never said that it would be 30min, and that it's supposed to be an hour to 1,5h wait. We confronted him, reminding him his initial estimation. He kept on denying and started getting the attitude of an "annoyed diva" bothered by stupid questions.
We understand that the estimated wait could be longer than expected, but we don't understand, nor want to tolerate an nonchalant attitude of a dishonest prick who publically puts your word to doubt and shows no interest or effort in accommodating customers who are coming to his restaurant.
The host being your first contact with the overall experience in a restaurant, the owners need to pay a little bit more attention on who they are placing on the front- welcome line of their places.
Extremely disappointing service; will not return.
Not too impressed. Although we were seated and served promptly, the waiter refused to 'split' the check. All entering are NOT couples. OK, then they do not accept credit cards which should be clearly displayed before entering or have an ATM machine on the premises. Food was not the best, as the dish I had with ginger had clumps of ginger. The mango's used in the salad were definitely not ripe.
Great place to be , excellent food to eat.
The first time i was there 5 months ago, it was a bit mysterious what i can eat , with so few boxes i had.
Well, i ate like a pig - literarelly - and i was happy like a cow!
It was amazing the quantity of food over there. And not cheap food, but REAL, quality, very delicious and with excellent service.
Since then, we go there at least once per week. I gain a few pounds of course, but who cares?^^
Good and Cheap. To keep it simple, Joya is a cramped up place. Filled up all the time at night, and there is a reason why. The food is authentic and it is cheap. The owners are nice as well. You can't go wrong with this place.
