great..
Pros
•Exceptional Thai food. Unusual, authentic taste
•Very affordable prices, extensive menu
•A "foodie" destination restaurant in Brooklyn
only con:
•Often crowded. long wait on weekends.
Good Neighborhood Thai Place. Just wanted a quick bite and we decided to try this restaurant. I live in the neighborhood and always pass by it so decided to finally give it a whirl. I had the Mango Shrimp special and it was really tasty and delicious. It was served on a leaf of lettuce resembling a bowl--really cool. The white rice portion was minimal but that didn't dampen my experience. The comfy seat/cushion spans the length of the brick wall with back cushions positioned on the wall as a back rest. I would eat here again.
Dine in: Waited 25 minutes for a Pad Thai that never came.
I decided recently to stop by to grab a quick bite for a hair appointment next door. It was a Monday evening and there were only two other diners ahead of me. After being snubbed by the wait staff for deciding to dine in alone, I ordered a Pad Thai with tofu. Soon, other diners started trickling in, but the restaurant was by no means crowded. As the minutes ticked by, I was very disappointed to see the diners who came in after me being served their meals as I continued to wait for a simple noodle dish. I tried to ask the wait staff, but they were preoccupied with the other diners and the take out orders. When I finally got the waiter's attention, I told him I had to cancel my order, which I doubt was ever placed with the kitchen. I can't believe that the waiter never noticed that I had not even been served by dinner.
I ended up going to my appointment starving. I will never again order from this restaurant. Next time, I will go to Em.
Grab a Cold One at the deli nextdoor - and enjoy the heat!. Ghang simply is great! I have been there at least 15 times and am still pleasantly surprised every time I go. I usually order the specials, so I always get to try something new. The service is so friendly, it's embarrassing. I do recommend to confirm the desired degree of spicyness for your dish, or you might be in for a fiery surprise. No problem for me, i like it hot. And best of all, they let you bring your own wine and/or beer, hence dinners turn out quite affordable. What's not to like?
great thai place to go (Ghang Thai Kitchen). you will love this place like me if you try it.such a great thai food, fair price and beautifull restaurant
Formerly Tuk Tuk, still good as Ghang Thai. This restaurant used to be Tuk Tuk -- at the time my favorite Thai place. I was concerned when I went back after taking a break and found it was now Ghang Thai. The place seems about the same, I'm not sure how much has changed beyond the name. Great food, great prices. One drawback I noticed when going there a few weeks ago: it's BYOB only. This is fine if you're prepared, but we weren't and we wanted some drinks with our dinner and it was a Sunday night and all liquor/wine stores nearby were closed. Great for lunch.
Just OK. This place gets pretty good reviews; but it is just ok. I think it has been over-rated. The food was good, reasonably prepared and inexpensive. We shared a shrimp jungle curry and a pick your chick with peanut sauce. The peanut sauce was particularly disappointing; it was mostly cornstarch, and the chain Lemongrass actually has a better sauce. The service was really bad. The waiters were inattentive and slow even though the place wasn't crowded. They didn't have any salad and the waiter didn't tell us this very smoothly. We asked for a napkin (missing from the table) two times and I finally got up and took it off another table because clearly they had forgotten. Then I practically had to beg for the check. I wouldn't go back here.
Good Thai. Tuk Tuk is my second favorite neighborhood Thai place (the first being Joya). This place, however, has a lot less pretension than Joya and the Thai food is still above-average. You rarely have to wait for a seat and the currys (masaman, green, red) are full of flavor and come super spicy if you ask for it. The Pad Thai is excellent here, as well.
It was really good!.
My husband insisted on going there while we were circling the neighborhood in search of the "nice" place with good food. The food is good, service is good too and the music adds to the relaxing evening!
Interesting dessert, but small list to choose from
Solid performer.
Tuk Tuk is one of those comfortable neighborhood joints where you know you will always have a good meal at a fair price. I've never been disappointed. While the menu isn't especially groundbreaking, everything I've tried so far has been well-executed and tasty. Service has always been friendly and efficient.
The space is a bit too small for live music, so on
jazz nights, it can be loud and cramped. Also, the place is popular with families, so if you're bothered by children running loose like wild animals, come later at night to avoid them.
