Hearty, heavy, mildly spiced Indian food served in a comfy, cool atmosphere..
The Scene
This beloved addition to the North Bedford scene has a contemporary, cozy vibe: Candlelight bounces off red tin walls and music from the latest Bollywood spectacular thumps in the background. Though the room can get crowded on weekend nights, service is generally unobtrusive but attentive. It's a great place to unwind after you get off the crowded L train.
The Food
Hearty, homestyle Bengali cuisine is the strength of the menu. Start with the vegetable samosas, which are deep-fried and lightly spiced; other appetizers are unexceptional. The Bengal Murgh Soup is light and fresh, with well-balanced seasoning. Rice-based and vegetarian dishes are your best bet: Vegetable briyani has a mild, buttery flavor and comes with complimentary basmati rice that's dusted with cloves and cardomom.
