Hidden beneath the tracks of the elevated J and M trains, this tiny triangular restaurant is the gold standard in faux-vintage chic with distressed everything, antique bric-a-brac and even a subterranean bathroom with a chain to flush the toilet. Heavily barred windows enclose a comfort zone for artsy locals who crave a taste of the trendier end of town in this low-rent sector. Sample the beer and wine list, but don't miss the food including inexpensive panini and homey American fare like rich mac and cheese and rotisserie pork ribs.

This is one of my very favorite spots of all time, in New York or any other city. The food is delicious and interesting, plus there's a good selection of beers and wines. It's in a beautiful triangular building with lots of painstakingly crafted detail. Good music- often can be very loud, but fun. This place even has its own Sundance channel documentary!
