Brooklyn >Soda Bar
“The atmosphere is very comfortable.”
“Wonderful little place for an after work drink.”
“The food is good to very good (for pub grub - avoid the pizzas, though), nice selection of beers on tap (and they usually have the right glassware for Weisses!)”
“Good crowd (friendly locals), decent space (comfy 10+ seat bar and a handful of tables), billiards on the upper deck, choice of cds or juke for tunes, limited menu (bar food basics) and kitchen's open til 12MN.”
“The Wings are good, people are good, music is good, Definitely a great place.”
“Nothing beats a well mixed cocktail, good tunes and a bartender that knows how to hold, entertain a crowd and set a mellow vibe.”
“Cool dive bar, reasonable prices.”
“Service can be a bit slow at times, but never surly or arrogant (this is coming from a once-a-week regular).”
good neighborhood bar. not so bad. nice bartenders. mildly overpriced bar food thats just ok. hot dog is terrible. the do have a great all day happy hour that is nice.
Yay Soda!. Good times, and good booze. Definitely benefits from its location next to the Bob Law Seafood Cafe. (A shellfish lovers dream!) I
Could be perfect....
...if they didn't play Iron & Wine, which makes me want to slit my wrists, all the time.
The crowd is cool though and the prices are reasonable.
worst in brooklyn. If you want to give up on life, you should give your money to Soda Bar. This is one of the most poorly run establishments in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. If you want to see "money-grubbing" between business owners at its best....take the time and visit. Don't for get the extra cash for an eightball- there are a few people there who can help you out.
BEST KEPT SECRET.
I JUST MOVED TO PROSPECT HEIGHTS WITH TWO OF MY BEST FRIENDS. ONE A GAY MAN AND
THE OTHER A BUDDING LESBIAN AND THEN THERE IS ME, I STILL DON'T KNOW... FOUR WEKS AGO I WENT TO SODA AND HAD A GREAT TIME, I FELT LIKE THEY ACCEPTED EVERYONE. SINCE THEN I'VE BROUGHT MY ROOMATES AND NUMEROUS FRIENDS IN. THE STAFF IS BUSY BUT AMAZING, SUCH GREAT UNIQUE AND INVITING PERSONALITIES. WE LOVE THE MALE WAITER AND HIS HUMOR. THE TWO MALE BARTENDERS ARE QUICK AND CHARMING. THE WOMAN ARE BEAUTIFUL AND UNIQUE, ONCE YOU GET TO KNOW THEM, WHICH MIGHT TAKE SOME TIME, BUT IS WORTH THE EFFORT. GOOD BAR FOOD. IT HAS AMAZINGLY DIVERSE PATRONS AND DEMANDS THAT WE LEAVE OUR DIFFERNCE AT THE DOOR, OR MAYBE ITS JUST THE STRONG DRINKS THAT MAKES US MINGLE. SODA BAR UPHOLDS THE IDEAL, OF WHAT ALL US IMIGRANTS CAME LOOKING FOR, AS WE PACKED OUR BAGS AND HEADED TO NY CITY.
Not your grandpa's soda fountain--but it used to be..
Back in 1930, the Brooklyn Dodgers shone on Ebbets Field, organized crime was in its heyday and this comfortable Prospect Heights bar was a German-owned ice cream parlor serving cherry-lime rickeys to the neighborhood's thirsty. Though the concept has changed, vintage remnants such as wooden tables with lunch-tray grooves, a Royal Crown Cola calendar and cherry-red fountain-style bar stools salute old times.
This unlikely block gets a double boon, as Soda Bar serves knockout food, too. Try the fish and chips, BLT or delightfully messy bacon cheeseburger. The jukebox houses recent throwbacks like the Smiths, Cure, Pixies and old-school Bjork, but music is kept at a disciplined volume for conversing.
Worst server ever!. I used to live down the street and would stop in to Soda a couple times a month because I really liked the place. I hadn't been there in a few months until this weekend and things have certainly changed. The bartender told us we had to sit at a table and somone would be over to take our drink order. The guy finally showed up at our table and asked us if we wanted menus too, we said yes and he immediately walked off without asking us about drinks. He gave us menus and took off again. We had to wave him over to put in a drink order (this was after being there for close to 20 minutes). He took my drink order and walked off - without asking my boyfriend what he wanted. They have a good happy hour deal as my beer was only $3 but somehow my boyfriend's drink of a vodka tonic(he was able to order after I got my drink) was $10. Looking around the place it seemed like others were having the same frustrating experiences with the wait staff. I'll never return.
unpleasant staff makes it worth avoiding. Multiple visits with friends who live in the neighborhood (and have learned to avoid this place) have finally convinced me it's not worth it. You can get a seat, but don't expect to get served for at least a half an hour, even when it's only half full. Horrible disappointment.
I've been living in this area over 3 years and Soda has been always great! I have to say that I used to like it more before because now it's packed every weekend.
Even though it's packed Soda still fun and you can eat late too!
oh the douchebaggery.
A friend and I have been going to Soda on Wednesdays for months now. The bartender is super nice. The food is ultra tasty. After tonight, I'm never going back.
We get there, it's crowded, and we see group grab all their stuff and leave a table, so we grab it. About seven minutes later, the waitress comes over and, instead of taking our order, tells us the people sitting there before us might come back, and that we need to immediately leave.
Since when do waitresses kick people off tables because the people who were sitting there and left, MIGHT be coming back? If the people who were sitting there came back and said something, that'd be one thing. But the fact that the waitress came over to tell us to leave after making us wait, is ridiculously insulting.
