“Runis the atmosphere on a night I would love to spend in the 'hood.”
“Excellent food too - good fish & chips and local brooklyn beers.”
“Food is great, especially chicken wings.”
“The food is good to very good (for pub grub - avoid the pizzas, though), nice selection of beers on tap (and they usually have the right glassware for Weisses!)”
“The second room (to the left of the bar) is a great place to sit and eat, never too loud or too crowded but fun and active nonetheless.”
“It's unpretentious, comfortable; yes, Kylie and Dan are some of the best bartenders around.”
“unpleasant staff makes it worth avoiding”
“Service can be a bit slow at times, but never surly or arrogant (this is coming from a once-a-week regular).”
Love the fish n chips. I have lived a block away for 4 years and been here a million times. It used to be my favorite back when roger and a couple other great bartenders. I don't really know anyone who works there now. Seems to always be someone different. The food is great and the prices are fair. The only thing that bothers me is slow service sometimes. If the bartender is texting or writing on the chalkboard or in a conversation, it seems they pretend not to see you waiting. I still go back for the convenience but not if I am feeling impatient
soda....
playing same songs over and over again..stop playing radiohead..arcade fire.....music is way too loud.. the bar has no taste at all.. oh wait..this bar is supposed to be a dive bar.. i guess i should not expect too much from this bar which thinks arcade fire is the coolest band out there..if you wanna enjoy good muisc and atmosphere..this is def not a bar for you..
everything is so cheesy..
What's going on with this place.
I remember when Soda was a place I could walk in and see a friendly neighborhood face behind the bar. There would be an interesting soundtrack and if you'd like the bartender could offer some intelligent banter. Those times seem few and far between these days. Over the last year the familiar faces have dwindled and it seems each time I go in for a drink there is a new one behind the bar. The personality of Soda Bar is slipping away to mindless robots that can almost make a basic cocktail. Very little thought is given to the music that is being played. Almost as if the house ipod is on continuous shuffle. Don't get me wrong there are a few personable bartenders left and if you are lucky enough to encounter one you'll be pleasantly surprised. Nothing beats a well mixed cocktail, good tunes and a bartender that knows how to hold, entertain a crowd and set a mellow vibe.
It leads me to believe it's all a matter of shotty management. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out if you are the only late night bar left in your neighborhood it would be smart and profitable to keep your kitchen open till at least 2, the bar open till 4. Reliability goes a long way. A moron could run this place and still make money and apparently is...
Don't get me wrong though. The food is great, they show some pretty interesting films and the patio is revamped. Just watch out for the vermin. Saw them scare a few patrons this past weekend.
Soda Bar was good. Really enjoyed the place. Really enjoyed the place. Really enjoyed the place.Really enjoyed the place.Really enjoyed the place.Really enjoyed the place.Really enjoyed the place.
Cool dive bar, reasonable prices....
There was plenty of space to meet-up which was key, as we had a large group all showing up at different times. The back area had scaffolding above, so it felt like hanging out a construction site, though it was a no frills crowd, so that was fine. Hopefully, they'll remove that soon.
As for food, the sausage sandwich was great, fries were soggy but still tasty, though the fried fish is best left in the freezer from whence it came.
Service is unfriendly and slow overall, but I'd head back for the space and versatility alone.
Pupu Platter..
Oh hell no. I've been to Soda many times, and I like it fine, but nothing prepared me for my experience last night. So I got stuck with this awful queen waiter - I'll call him Cuntyqueentay. He had shoulder-length bobbed curly hair and wore palazzo pants with a blousy tunic top: very 'Fame gone to pasture.,' you expected him to pirouette away from you after taking your order.
ANYway, I know I'm being ridiculous with these descriptions, but seriously, Cunty had the stankest attitude. And I mean, I waited tables for three years and can appreciate a bitchy queen. This was not that. Homegirl bitched me out for ordering a drink at the bar (instead of through him), which I only did because I couldn't find him for 20 minutes. Wouldn't make eye contact after that, slamming things down on the table and walking away, shaking his head, after I apologized for not ordering through him. Same with the check, exasperated sighs and eye rolls. I felt like he demanded a diva showdown! You know what? Hated itttt. I left my maraschino cherry in that untouched container of mayo and I've never felt better. Cuntyqueentay, you know who you are.
Loved everything about it. It was a great place all around. The waitress was friendly and checked up on me enough but not too much to the point that she got annoying... The french fries and buffalo wings are DELICIOUS. I've been thinking about them ever since. The atmosphere is very comfortable. Its good for a night out with your friends or a friendly romantic date. Candles on the tables, the dim lighting, and comfortable seating (couches and comfy chairs) make for a great experience. For sports lovers, theres a big screen tv in a separate room also equipped with comfy seating to view all the major sports events... I LOVED IT
One word...FABULOUS. I would've never imagined that this place was soooo Awesome. Went there tonight and I was so pleased Im writing this at 5am. The Wings are good, people are good, music is good, Definitely a great place.
Great burgers, great atmosphere - rest of the menu not as good, only so-so service. Really love the digs. The second room (to the left of the bar) is a great place to sit and eat, never too loud or too crowded but fun and active nonetheless. Couches and tables are comfortable, and even better, during good weather the outdoor seating is really fantastic, a great place to just sit and eat. The service is friendly but very often quite slow, this is forgivable since it's such a nice place to just hang - I'd recommend going when you're up for a relaxing meal, but not when you're hungry for a quick fix, cause it might take awhile. The biggest caveat though is to definitely order the Soda Burger - it's one of the best in Brooklyn - but the rest of the menu doesn't live up. It doesn't really need to though, the burger is what you go there for and it won't disappoint.
Best Happy Hour In Town. Great food, great people and a great happy hour! What more could you ask? This place has it all. Do yourself a favor and try the pierogi.
