Big attitude, Big Hair – If you want a consistently well done 80's hairstyle, Lily does it. As a matter of fact, she gives everyone the same haircut she herself sports. (I don't know about guys). Nothing wrong with that, if that's what you want. Though beware of her 'signature' scissor trick to supposedly curl your hair. I have walked out of there looking like an artichoke, my naturally wavy hair short and flat on top, skinny and thinned out at the ends. BUT her cuts do hold their own, and will grow out nicely. Also, you must be prepared to put up with her attitude, e.g. be yelled at for being a few minutes late and you will have to listen to her complain about having too many customers. I have actually seen her send someone away for being 20 minutes late, and then told me she only did it on principle. Never mind the lady drove all the way from Connecticut, and it was a snowy Sunday morning... So be prepared and be on time!
Never a bad cut – I come from Philadelphia to see Lily.
She is the first person I've met who can make my fine, stick-straight hair look good without an army of brushes and product. She has dyed my hair pink, helped me transition to work-appropriate subtle highlights, and made my cowlicks work for me (did you ever think a cowlick could work to your advantage?). She's given me everything from asymmetrical cuts to understated, gorgeous layers. Her cuts grow out well. She's a bargain.
Most importantly, she's willing to take the time to help get it right and is honest when she sees that your hair just can't do what you want it to do. The only time I left unsatisfied out of the 4 years I've been seeing her was when she didn't have time to dry my hair completely because I showed up late.
In short: She's got talent without the pretense, good taste in music, a cup of tea if it's cold out, and will tell you if you've got toilet paper stuck to your shoe.
Mullet – I went to the Lilypad for a haircut by Lily a few weeks ago. I showed her a picture of the style that I wanted, and gave specific details of the length and style I wanted. Lily did not cut the style that I asked for (or even anything close), and instead gave me a haircut that most closely resembles a mullet.
AMAZING! – After moving to NYC from Texas and leaving my fave Dallas stylist behind, my hair's been just plain sad. Lily turned my flat, naturally medium brown hair into a gorgeous array of blonde highlights (my inspiration was Reese Witherspoon)!! She also used wet and dry cutting to turn my mangled layers into a cut similar to Nicole Richie's adorable bob. I've been to salons in Manhattan that weren't half as good for twice the price! My single-process color, highlights and cut were only $200! I've found a new favorite stylist... thanks Lily!!
Lily's great haircut and color – I have been going to Lilypad for the past two years and I must say, Lily is AMAZING with hair. I went to another salon in Manhattan on the recommendation of a friend. It was very cute and swanky, but the woman who cut and highlighted my hair just wasn't as good. Furthermore, it cost me almost twice as much as it does at Lilypad Beauty Lounge!
Lily is a truly talented hairstylist (she worked at Elizabeth Arden before going solo). Plus, she is affordable and accomodating.
love this place!! – I've Been coming to the lilypad about 4 years, since I first came to Williamsburg, I find it unpretenious and freindly, like doing your hair with your girlfreind at home! we gossip, have beverages and shoot the breeze! my most doable indulgence! and the prices make it easy to maitain my look..and I love her haircuts and what she does with color, I have the best shades of red ever!
SEXIEST COLOR JOB I EVER GOT! LILY ROCKS! – my hair is hard to color and match, it is dark, with gray in it ,I used to be a brunette, but been thinking of going blond for awhile. She did it all with highlights! she used 3 different colors and a glaze. And the cut is super sassy too! I now have super long layers! I love my new movie- star layers! I feel super! NOT FOR THE FRUMPY, FOR SURE! LOL!
Biggest mistake ever – My usual salons were booked for the weekend and I was leaving for a 10 day vacation that week. I decided, based on all the positive reviews on Citisearch, to take a risk and book at an unknown salon and save some money. Being a long haired dirty blonde, my hair never seems too difficult to cut and color - a few long layers and a partial highlight. After mentioning that my hair has a tendency to turn grey, she proceeded to give me the worst highlight. The back of my head was a completely different color than the front - and the entire front portion of my hair was dark grey. My hair cut was horrendous - to fix it, i'm going to have to go much shorter than I'd like. I asked for 1.5" off, and more like 3" came off the front.
I guess I only paid $100, but I will spend another $200 at another salon getting it fixed. Please do not go here if you have never been, and do not pay attention to the other reviews.
LILY IS THE BEST IN WILLIAMSBURG! – i had to look great for my Off-Broadway debut and Lily made sure I got exactly what I wanted: Edgy and stylish, but within the aeshtetic of my character. I was a nervous wreck, too, and the staff at the salon made every effort to make me feel calm and relaxed. Thanks again!!!! OOOXXX
Lilypad is the best salon ever. Period. – Lily is a hair genius. She exactly matched my hard-to-match colour and gives fab cuts to boot. They grow out great, too. Plus she is just about the sweetest, most personable lady around. It's like having a very talented friend give you the perfect cut. Any one who says otherwise is obviously mentally ill.
