Dangerous with scissors. My husband and I went to the Oggi Hair salon because we wanted to try a new salon; the atmosphere is very down to earth and it's a good and relaxed environment but on the day we were there they got backed up because there weren't enough employees to get to the people who came in after us and they seem to be rather non-chalant about that which is not good; I certainly wouldn't want to be someone showing up on time for my appointment and have to sit around for over an hour because there aren't enough people working to serve all the customers. Then I asked the lady who was cutting my and my husband's hair for very specific hair cuts...she cut and cut and cut and couldn't seen to stop cutting. The funny thing is she told me that someone whose hair she used to work on regularly had once told her to STOP cutting because she goes too far. But though she tells that story, it appears that story hasn't really sunk in. THEN we asked if she would lighten both my husbands' and my hair. Well, my husband walked out of there and he looked liked a leopard...his high lights were TERRIBLE...they were FAR from the blond high lights he had asked her to do; it looked SO fake and rather than blond he ended up with horrid patches of a muddy kind of redish/blond. Then I asked her to make my hair RED and I showed her the very color in a book that she herself handed me to pick from and she went and dyed my hair the darker shade. It's like EVERY single thing we asked her for, she did the exact opposite. THEN, came time to pay the bill...it was SO expensive. I'm never going back there again and though I wish these ladies well, I must say that this is the first nasty hair disaster I've had in more than 20 something years! I'm going back to my old hair stylist.
over priced. what a bad experience. I spent a day's pay to get my hair ruined. They claim to have cut movie stars hair (that was many years ago) but now they can't handle a simple hilite and cut. I hate when stylists come across as kwow-it-alls and don't know anything, except how to charge you a lot of money. I guess they have to because the place is always empty. I wonder why?
Two celebrity stylists set up shop in Carroll Gardens..
The Space
Sponged white walls offset by wine-colored velvet curtains. A goth chandelier reflected in mirrors with gilded frames. The look of Oggi is so quintessentially 1980s, you might think you've stumbled onto the set for some forgotten flick starring Molly Ringwald as a beautician. The truth is not far off. Hollywood stylists Patricia Grande and Scott Farley bring impressive on-set expertise--"Goodfellas," "Big Night," "Analyze This"--to a neighborhood in dire need of a place hipper than the unisex beauty parlors that abound.
The Services
While Grande and Farley do corrective coloring and limited waxing (lip and brow), Oggi specializes in razor cuts. Grande got her first job by telling a producer she couldn't "imagine you asking me to do anything I couldn't do." That skill-backed confidence sets this salon apart and makes it Brooklyn's first noteworthy alternative to the trendsetting salons of the Lower East Side.
Best haircuts. In the past year I have gone from long to short, with several stops in between. Patricia gave me great haircuts at every step along the way. She's a great person to go to when you're ready for a change and don't have all the details figured out. She listens, gives candid advice and then gives you the haircut you want. Her daughter Andrea is also a warm person who has pitched in with advice, blowouts and touch-ups.
nope. I am not picky a person. But I would not go back here. I gave them a lot of money to get my brown hair lightened. As the process was getting done, i could tell he was nervous. well a long story short...my hair turned out orange...orange blotchy. I went back the next day and told him to fix it, but still it was horrible. I had to go to a NYC salon to get it corrected. So I spent about 500 dollars to go from brown to orange back to brown!
best haircut ever...try it!. So I am extraordinarily nervous/pikcy when it comes to my hair. For the past 4 months I have been searching for someone I can trust to cut my hair...I pass by Oggi every night on my way home from work and I finally decided to give it a whirl (after reading great reviews, etc), even though I have NEVER spent more than 60 bucks on a haircut...BOY was it worth it!!!! I have short hair, and wanted a funkier style...Patricia helped me get exactly what I was looking for...I got her undivided attention (which is a major bonus if you are used to going to large, crowded salons where you feel rushed)When she was done I was amazed, and now two days later I am still amazed and LOVE my new hair...I will not go anywhere else again!
BEWARE OF STYLIST!. I HAD THE WORST HAIR EXPERIENCE WITH SCOTT. I SHOWED HIM A PICTURE OF EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. HE MENTIONED A SLIGHT VARIATION. IN TURN, HE GAVE ME THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT I ASKED FOR. HE CUT MY HAIR (HAIR THAT I SPENT THE PAST YEAR GROWING OUT) ALL OFF. I HAD A BOB AND JUST WANTED A SHORTER VERSION. THE BOB DISAPPEARED. INSTEAD I WAS LEFT WITH A VERY SHORT PIXIE CUT. I CRIED THE ENTIRE WAY HOME AND WAS UP HALF THE NIGHT CRYING. I CAN SEE THAT HE REALLY LISTENS. I WAS A NEW CLIENT AND BRAND NEW TO THE SALON. HE REALLY LOST MY BUSINESS. I HEAR PATRICIA IS GREAT, SHE WAS ON VACATION WHEN I WAS THERE AND I WOULD HAVE GONE TO HER BUT DID NOT WANT TO SEE HER PARTNER AGAIN, SO I HAVE OPTED TO GO ELSEWHERE.
wow! whatta haircut!. I am EXTREMELY picky about the haircuts that I get..I must say I have had Scott cut my hair twice and both times the haircut has been exactly what I wanted...even better. He is the best stylist I have been to in a long time.
soho meets brooklyn. oggi, a hairsalon in brooklyn that has a soho feeling to it. scott did a fabulous job cutting and coloring my hair. he seems to be a perfectionist and doesn't let you get out of his chair until it looks p-e-r-f-ec-t! i'll definitely go back and can only recommend their services. two thumbs up!
