Starts good, ends as a fiasco – When I first dealt with Allisa's Bridal, I was thrilled. Brian was extremely accommodating, Maria the seamstress worked tirelessly, and the saleswoman was a doll.
My bridal dress needed a lot of work, not their fault. But I knew there were problems when I found out that they DIDN'T have mirrors to see the back of the dress. Trust them, they said. Really!?
I asked Maria to please reinforce all the seams because all of the alterations had caused the stitching to come loose. Sure, she said.
I also had a problem with the bridal train because the train was not long enough for a bustle, yet it didn't look right with an elastic wrist band either. The saleswoman and seamstress decided on a french bustle. They assured me it was easy to use and consisted of 4 ribbons and 2 matching sets of safety pins for adjusting the paired ribbons. I paid extra for the french bustle.
Day of the wedding:
1. Within 30 minutes of wearing the wedding dress, the hip diagonal seam unravels, leaving the seam hanging. Each time I moved, the unraveling became worse. We had to hunt for a guest who could put in some makeshift stitches to keep the material together!
2. The attendant nervously told me that the dress in the back was not falling right. The zipper was not straight but was off-center. My older daughters confirmed. Nothing could be done! So much for relying on Allisa's without a mirror to see the back of the dress.
3. After the ceremony, my bridal attendants worked together to lift the dress train with the french bustle. It didn't work!!! We called down my daughters (both of whom had recently married) and their mothers-in-law (who know a thing or two about dresses) and all tried and tried... the french bustle did not work!! I almost tripped during the first dance because of the train and I fell twice during the "Hora".The band leader finally announced that the bride had a "dress malfunction" and I was sidelined at my own wedding.
I called Brian right after the wedding and told him what had happened. Rather than sincerely being upset over my situation, he sounded as if he were distancing himself from what had happened. I called again the day after I returned from my honeymoon. Brian kept trying to put responsibility on my shoulders: maybe I ripped the dress or a guest stepped on it, they are not responsible for what happens to a dress once it leaves the store and cannot guarantee that something will work.
I told Brian that I was only looking for return of the $100 I had paid extra for the bustle... nothing more. He refused, saying that he did not feel it fair that HE get PUNISHED.
As I had told Brian, a dress needs to be able to last through a wedding in one piece and be modified for reception dancing. He did not want to hear any of that.
I feel that the craftsmanship of the gown was questionable and the response by Brian was unprofessional. He should have sincerely apologized, and gratefully refunded the $100,
Simply amazing place – My girlfriend picked up her bridesmaid's dress here while her friend bought her actual wedding dress. The place is amazing - quiet, beautiful, with two mirrored spots (I was standing in the middle to see both the bride to be and bridesmaid, it was very cool view!). Staff is very polite, knowledgeable and knows what they are doing. They also do alterations on site, so my gf's dress got fit to her proportions on the same day.
Overall - the best place I've seen, they helped take care of lots of wedding stuff - from girls' makeup to dresses to my tuxedo. Two thumbs up.
Gorgeous showroom, best in Brooklyn – Great personal attention, highly recommended! They have everything - bridal, bridesmaids, formal wear, accessories, and jewelry. I couldn't thank them enough for helping me plan for my special day....A+
