I discovered Smokey's while living in an uncharted Brooklyn neighborhood known as Kensington, looking for a place to kill some time waiting for new tires at Strauss on 4th avenue. I happened upon this tiny, neat friendly pub owned by a retired firefighter (hence the name) and sat down for a beer, which turned into several, then lunch.

I adore this place. The food is made with love (I've tried salads, burgers, sandwiches and italian specials, there's more,) the bar has a fine selection of draughts and the cozy dining room is decorated with skillful photo-realistic paintings of life as a firefighter. The 'tenders and staff make you feel like family and now it's a regular stop.
