The Scene
The words soothing, contemplative and reverent probably all pop to mind when envisioning an ideal sake bar; while thoughts of "Bob Marley's Greatest Hits" and Ikea's Swedish influence most likely do not. The aforementioned decor and soundtrack issues at Fifth Avenue's newest cushion-and-candle hang provide for the occasional bit of cultural dissonance, but the spot is certainly not without its other charms.

The Draw
After a glass or two of milky Nigori or fragrant Nanburyu, you're probably not going to be feeling overly fussy about your surroundings. Temper the inevitable sake buzz with a few savory tapas from the kitchen (the marinated fried chicken is worth the trip alone) or make a full meal of the meticulously presented chirashi or rolls. Any residual atmospheric difficulties will just melt away.

I've passed by here once or twice, and they normally have different items on special. I finally decided to try it one day, and I got the Korean BBQ with sushi. It was quite delicious, but it wasn't a jaw-dropping experience. The staff is really friendly though, and the price is not bad. The place is pretty comfortable as well, with couches and low tables. They also have a happy hour special for those of you who like sake, which is normally from 12-8pm. Tamari is elegant and satisfying.

i love this place. the food is great and the people are super friendly and cool. i've had dinner there at least once a month for three years and i've never had a bad dish. some of the specials are real culinary masterpieces. simple, but with the emphasis on flavor. impressive saki menu too. easy for non japanese folks to figure out, by way of helpful descriptions. thank you tamari!! you guys are great.

What restaurant makes you pay for a dish that you've said tastes bad? My boyfriend had the miso ramen, which I tasted. It was AWFUL, like what you would imagine dirty socks to taste like!!! We politely told the waiter that it tasted off and he suggested they replace it with soy ramen. He comes back and says the chef says he didn't do anything out of the ordinary to it. SO MUCH FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! How can any restaurant even say thank you while you're leaving with a straight face?!?! We should have known better. The last time we came here we were asked to move halfway through the meal to seat another party. All this restaurant cares about is making money. ITS NOT WORTH THE BAD ENERGY- show your love somewhere else!
