Great – Someone sent me to Hello Beautiful years ago after a seriously snotty hairdresser traumatized me into avoiding salons for a year, and I've never looked back. Sometimes Rebecca is distracted, yes, but I really like her instincts and I've always gotten great cuts from her and more recently from Ayame (who is there on Mondays which is when I seem to be able to go lately).
And now that they have a spot in Soho, I'm even happier. (I don't actually spend all that much time in W'burg)
If I went in for crazy nails I'd be triple thrilled but I don't.
Great Value for Lovely Service! – I went into Hello Beautiful this morning in desperate need of a haircut. I went looking for Kanako after reading numerous good comments about her, but she was on vacation. Instead, Rebecca, the owner, took my appointment. She was friendly and funny and she gave me a GREAT haircut! This salon is really hip and edgy... I don't have crazy colored hair or a bold, choppy hairstyle, but she still managed to fix up my hair so that it looks fun and professional.
After the lovely cut, I decided to have my nails done by Naomi. Not only was she wonderfully nice and talkative, but she gave a great mani! She was so detailed and careful about each nail, and her nail art is adorable!
Overall, it was a wonderful value. $52 for the cut and $10 base price for a mani ($3 per nail for some really amazing nail art)... I'm sold :)
a little too inconsistent – Well, I used to go to the owner, unfortunately, personal life seems to get in the way of professional. Her cuts are inconsistent. I also had to get my color fixed elsewhere to correct the obvious mismatch with my skin tone. It kind of stinks because it's a nice place, but it seems like the owner can't keep it together long enough to give a good cut/color. Kanako on the other hand -- well I much prefer her! If you decide to go, just book an appointment with Kanako and you won't be unhappy.
Hello Beautiful turns ugly... – I'm not sure what has caused this recent turn of events, but it's unfortunate as I used to consider this place one of the best in the city. I must concur with the previous review in that all of the stylists are completely distracted ( so much so that I nearly had my eye taken out with a scissor). It appeared that there were 3x the stylists that has been employed previously and was so crowded the patrons were practically sitting on each other's laps. This may have contributed to the slip. However, she seemed more focused ok everybody else's hair but mine. I ended the session as quickly and politely as I could and got the heck out if there. Not to mention that they've lost some key talent with Tom's departure, it's unfortunate that it's become all about churning a quick buck to which hair has become completely secondary. I'm sure my review won't affect their business but I do hope to save others from making a similar mistake.
needs a good cleaning – hello beautiful is one of the dirtiest salons i have ever been in--
the owner seems to be too high to focus on the timing of hair color-
and i ended up with much darker roots that did not match the rest of my hair-
who cares if she then gives a discount for her mistake-i have had to go to different people to correct her mistake twice---which ends up costing more!! they seem to be too cool to listen and respect what their clients want-!! fool me twice--shame on me--i will never go back there again-
kanako rocks – Kanako is amazing! She does exactly what you want with your hair (and mine is long, curly, and has been mangled by more than one hairdesser), but better than you thought it could be. For $52 it is definitely worth it. The dog is adorable too.
We Love Kanako ! – My friends have recently been looking more beautiful lately and I ask where they've been going . I kid you not all my friends with the great haircuts told me told me they've gone to the same place with the same person. Kanako of Hello Beautiful was the pic. I've been growing out my hair for awhile now & so lately haven't visited a cut for a minute. Upon ecommendation I went over to Kanako. First of all , she's the biggest sweet-heart you'll ever meet, next she does her stuff, Real Well! I came out very happy, I looked cool & i definitely feel I came out with a bargain! I will be a repeat customer, so if you're in the need for a new fresh cut check her out! I know you'll be happy!
Flip a coin – Because that's the chance of getting what you want--50/50. I've had both pleasant and bad experiences, mostly depending on the distraction level of my stylist. If they are on the phone or waiting on more "important" clients, it sucks. If they are invested in what is going on that moment, then it's great. The last time I was there I was given something 180 degrees from what I asked for: Way too many layers in a style that doesn't fit my hair texture. I feel like it was the "Cut Du Jour" for everyone who walks through the door. Not to mention that you have to request a smock if you want your street clothes protected, they are never given voluntarily. I thought Hello Beautiful was a bargain, but a bargain isn't much of a bargain when your stylist doesn't listen to what you want!
Kanako ROCKS! – After searching endlessly for a decent salon in Williamsburg that didnt cost over $75 and didnt have a snobby "hipster" feel, I came across Hello Beautiful. I had my first haircut with Kanako back in December and since then Ive been going every 6-8wks. its well worth the $52 she charges me!!! I have very thick, naturally wavy hair, that looks like SILK when she is done. Shes a genius with the razor! Now, my boyfriend and my 14yr old daughter go to her, and swear by her! The place is cool, the dogs are cute, and the staff is laid back. No hipster scum here!
Great! – I live in Manhattan but head to Brooklyn to get my hair cut/colored at Hello Beautiful! Staff is cool and the prices are reasonable.
