The Scene – DUMBO still mystifies: Its cobblestone streets are deserted once the sun goes down, yet luxury buildings continue to pop up, then fill up with posh residents. 66 Water Street, tucked away just a block from the East River, looks to be the neighborhood's local tavern, with a long wooden bar that could date back to the turn of the century--or could be brand new. Overlook the too-bright lighting and the tepid music in this vast, brick-walled space and focus instead on the choice ironwork on the stairway railings: It recalls the girders of the nearby Brooklyn Bridge. –…
What a find!
by BuddySmith
What a find! A friend & I stumbled on this charming restaurant & bar right under the Brooklyn Bridge last night and we had a GREAT time. When I first saw a huge bar with more beer selections than I could count I thought, OK, it's a bar and burger joint. So we weren't expecting an epicurian meal of any sort. But we still ordered Coconut Shrimp & an Eggplant Napolean appetizer - which were amazing! The shrimp was in a pineapple chutney that I could have taken home by the jar.
So far, so good. For dinner I had sea scallops with mushroom risotto and my buddy had stuffed chicken with sundried tomatoes, capers and mozzerella, smothered in tomato sauce and we both loved it.
For dessert we had the house special called murder by chocolate, it was a chocolate mousse cake with a big knife sticking out of it and raspberry sauce -- and I swear, it DID look like someone was murdered..and I could see why...if they tried to take it from me, I would have murdered someone too! It was THAT good.
I took a bunch of pix so you guys can all see what a great find this is. I also got a look at the Valentines Day menu. It looks great with things like champagne chicken and lobster ravioli...and if I didn't have to go back to Miami today I would have made a reservation. The staff is cool and attentive and they were telling me about a disco party coming up on the 19th, so I took a picture of that too...who knew Brooklyn could be so cool? I will definitely be back next time I am in town.
- Pros: Inventive Menu, Nice Staff, Fun Atmosphere,
- Cons: It was busy so I had to wait a while but it was worth it, I am leaving town before the disco party
Just OK

The wait staff are pretty nice. The drinks are usually great and the service has always been prompt. The meals are not always good. Burgers are great. However, one evening my friend and I ordered the calamari appetizer and steaks for dinner. The steaks were tough and the calamari was chewy and undercooked. We were not charged for the food, but it makes for an awkward situation. It will be a while before we go back.
- Pros: never crowded, good draft beer selection
- Cons: food not cooked properly
BAD Food

Ok, so me and my boyfriend like to go out once a week for dinner to some nice place.. We enjoy all kinds food, would it be American, Italian, French or Asian Fusion.. So, last Saturday, we decide to chill in Dumbo and try the Water Street Restaurant...WOW, what a mistake.. First, we order appetizers.. I order Fried Calamari...it was extremely chewy.. then I ask the waitress if they can change shrimp in shrimp languini to some other seafood..she tells me no...as the shrimp is already mixed in.. then I order a side order of onion rings which they dont have that day.. I finally ordered crab cakes with french fries.. My G_D..those crab cakes look like beef patties..that's how much they were overcooked..and the fries..you could have broken a tooth while eating them..So I sent the food back which I have never done before and we left.
The only good thing, I can say about this place is that they are drinks were not bad.. We had some black cherry drink that was good.. Don't go there.. Food is pre cooked..
- Pros: Ok Drinks
- Cons: pre cooked food
