No longer operating out of the church where it once resided, Arts at St. Ann's transforms a nearby storehouse into a top-notch theater..
The Appeal
This first-rate concert hall and performance space can be hard to find, but it's worth it. The Arts at St. Ann's programmers are committed to presenting inventive, multi-artist collaborations; this commitment has earned them the respect of art-world luminaries (Laurie Anderson and Lou Reed, for instance) who've made long-term associations.
The Experience
Despite the warehouse-like exterior, St. Ann's boasts a large, comfortable reception area serving above-average food and drinks and often using the walls as a gallery space. More importantly, the former warehouse is equipped with a great stage and sound system, which has hosted rock-and-roll legends like Joe Strummer and David Bowie. The isolated location and industrial architecture give shows here a communal, underground feel while the roomy interior easily accommodates crowds of up to 275.
