From The Owner of Bar Great Harry

The former Bar Bar rebrands itself as a great purveyor of beers of all stripes in the thirsty Carroll Gardens neighborhood.

great wine selection. The old space was fine but lacking in personality. The new incarnation has a nicer vibe and a very friendly staff. While I am gathering they will be better known for their beers, they also have a variety of great wines by the glass (as opposed to having the usual choice of house red or house white.) I think it will do well.

A high-end beer bar so lacking in pretense, you might just think it's a regular bar.. In Short
With the brick exterior and ho-hum interior, drinkers can be forgiven for thinking Bar Great Harry is just another stop on the Carroll Gardens pub crawl. While it may seem unassuming, a sophisticated list of Belgian-style beers, crafted ales, microbrews and old standbys make this bar worth special notice. Neighborhood regulars are almost as knowledgeable as the bartenders, but if you can't choose from the nearly 70 bottled selections, ask for a sample from one of the 12 on tap.

Hits:
Proving that good beer can come cheap, prices hover in the $5 to $8 range, though the hefty 25.5 oz. Lindemans Gueuze Cuvee Rene caps the list at $25.

Misses:
The simple, standard decor belies the high-quality brews behind the bar, and those looking for ambience may be disappointed.

Amid fusion dining and hip boutiques, a neighborhood spot that's pleasantly ordinary.. The Digs
The unpretentious name, stamped several times across the orange exterior, says it all. The antithesis of its sophisticated neighbor Quench, Bar is a homey sort of place, with cheerful touches like the multicolored lights decorating the window and the odd glittery table. Aside from loudish rock and the game on TV, there's not much to distract you from a good conversation.

The Vibe
Cozy to the point of claustrophobia in the colder months, Bar is best on a summer weeknight, when you can sip an excellent margarita in the open air as the local artists, writers and ex-dot-commers drop in. There are no snacks, but you won't go hungry in this neighborhood; while Bar lacks the timeworn, pub-like atmosphere of the Brooklyn Inn, proximity to the heart of Smith Street life makes it a welcome newcomer.

a very fine local. Always friendly and comfortable. Dicky is an extremely polite chap. Plus they let me use the restroom when I'm just passing through, which after a couple drinks in Manhattan and an F-train ride is not to be taken lightly. Four dollar Stellas finish the job.

Wanna Get Away From the Hipsters?. This is the place to go when you want to be away from all the pretentious, overcrowded and trendy hangouts. Bartenders Dicky, Daria, and Cooper are always friendly, fair, and quick on service with a smile, and you can strike up conversations with almost anyone. It can get a bit crowded sometimes, but it's worth it to have the opportunity to relax and have a good time!
