“But I don't get why they only seem to employ rude, unfriendly receptionists.”
“Also, the massages at Greenhouse are incredible and inexpensive.”
High risk yoga. If you're well versed at yoga then this is the place for you. If you come here to be enlightened and learn how to properly practice yoga, make sure you have a good chiropracter and/or acupuncurist waiting for you afterwards because though you'll learn the poses, you won't learn how to do them correctly and you WILL hurt yourself. It's unfortunate it's not required to have any anatomical study to get certified as a yoga teacher. Anyone who can do a backbend can get certified!
I love Greenhouse. I feel so fortunate that Greenhouse Holistic exists. It is amazingly affordable, offers a variety of challenging classes, and has really helped me move forward with my own yoga practice. The teachers are so knowledgeable and insightful, and make an effort to remember everyone's names and keep their classes interesting. I feel like I am a part of something positive and great when I am there. Also, the massages at Greenhouse are incredible and inexpensive. I have gotten them specifically when I've had injuries or am sore from stress, and I've always felt so much better afterwards. It's really worth while to be a member- unlimited yoga and discounts on massages and other services. I can't think of one thing I don't like about Greenhouse Holistic- I am there as much as possible!
painfully boring. I live in the hood and over the years have visited this yoga studio when convenient, but no mas. The classes are not challenging, and they don't necessarily give what they claim to offer- a higher level vinyasa can end up being a restorative depending on the teacher's whim, or a vinyasa is a generic ashtanga class which I'm not interested in. The staff are vanilla- they don't even smile when you walk in. They don't attempt to get to know even your name. One time, I mentioned an injury, and the teacher told me if I practiced ashtanga every day, the injury would fix itself. The space is small, and it's not possible to develop a practice. After over 20 wasted classes here because it's so convenient to me, and trying different teachers, I'm done.
Terrific, except for the reception staff. Excellent massages and facials, and the yoga classes at Greenhouse are also awesome. But I don't get why they only seem to employ rude, unfriendly receptionists. At this stage, I'm tired of going in there and getting attitude and withering looks when I ask to pay for a class or book a session.
Absolutely the best massage in NYC. I have had massages all around the city but this beats them all, hands-down! Tonight I got a 90 minute hot stone massage from David of Greenhouse Holistics. This is the most sensual, most releasing, most therapeutic massage ever! I was absolutely lost in the rhythm of the massage. David was incredibly present and gave 100% to this massage. AND I was a last minute appointment for the end of the day! I'll be going back asap.
the ultimate in massage.
I recently quit smoking and treated myself to a massage with David.

amazing massage...amazing. David Greenhouse gave me the best massage I have had in years... His energetic focus and attention to the specifics of my body was truly healing. I have tried massage therapists around the country, and must say... David really has a gift. I really felt myself releasing and breathing into his hands.

The Scene
Massage therapist David Greenhouse's small holistic center has an earthy feel, with wood floors, an array of plants, Tibetan music and the scent of sandalwood incense. In harmony with the neighborhood, the engaging yoga instructor shows boldly tattooed forearms, while David's own serpentine designs wrapped around his wrists give him the appearance of a healer.
The Services
Massages at Greenhouse are therapeutically oriented; after reviewing any health or stress issues and checking your range of motion, David will work on your back, scalp and legs at the pressure that's most comfortable for you. His new incorporation of hot stones enhances the variety of massage techniques with penetrating heat and the unique, grounding sensation of smooth stone. In addtion, the spa also offers deep tissue, sports and para-natal massage as well as reflexology and reiki.
IT TURNED OUT WELL. for those of you who read the "bad experience" posting. I must apologize. I called the owner again and he and the lovely esthetician were both really helpful. they completely took care of the situation. i'm sure anyone going there for a facial will have a great experience and the Yoga is wonderful.
