This restaurant almost makes you think you've left New York. Tried dinner on a Friday night around 9:00pm, and got the impression that my fellow diners had all been there many times before. It has a real neigborhood-y feeling, with food that tastes like it was made by your grandma--the one who's a really awesome cook. The wine list is humble, but the selections are solid. The portions are large, so bring an appetite (we ordered an appetizer and regretted it once our ginormous entres arrived at the table). All in all, great food, in an understated atmosphere (i.e. not so hip). If you want to have dinner and be able to hear yourself speak, this is a great place to go. I highly recommend the ribs.
Pros: Tasty food
Cons: bland environment (office tiled ceiling)

For our weekly 'date nite' (so cheesey, but it works people) I took my man to Magnolia. We arrived before the dinner rush, got a great table by the window. Beautiful rich color scheme, fantastic ambiance... The beef wellington app was just different enough from any other Wellington I have had that I enjoyed the chef's take on it. The smashed potatoes were divine. The bartender made great drinks consistently throughout our nite. 2nd course we had salads, and both of us enjoyed the simple mixed greens. FANTASTIC dressing (HUGE PORTION...if having multiple courses I suggest splitting the greens...but then how tacky is that?) For my entree I had a chicken, mushroom and spinach w/ shaved parmesan risotto. the chicken was tender, juicy. the flavors were incredible, but I thought the rice was undercooked. It was a special for the evening, so proceed w/ caution (risotto is tricky, tho. A for effort). My boyfriend enjoyed the fried calamari app (big fan of the dill dipping sauce). I am a veteran of the food-service industry, so I am quite particular about service. Our server was wonderful. A little lacking in the enthusiasm portion, (esp. compared to the other server on the floor that nite, who I overheard at the table behind us, talking about the menu, explaining ingredients, etc) but he was attentive and very respectful of our dining experience. The bussing staff was quick w/ the water and plate clearing, but not in an intrusive or obnoxious way. Hard to tell we LOVED the place? well, we did, and chris and i will definately be returning!
Pros: price, location, ambiance
Cons: none worth noting! :)
