The Scene
Few Slope bars attract the variety of clientele that this explorable, multi-level lounge does. Upstairs, chatty regulars crowd the smallish bar debating neighborhood politics or what CD to play next. Downstairs, in the louder basement lounge--with a separate bar and streetwise soundtrack--groups check each other out. And out back, in a spacious garden accessible from both floors, candlelit couples are oblivious to both.
The Draw
With the wide scope of patrons come an array of offerings, such as karaoke Thursdays and poetry readings the first Tuesday of the month. Bands frequently play on weekends, setting up in an overhead loftspace on the first floor. A group of joggers like the lounge so much they make it the end goal of their monthly run, then celebrate. With the power to pick and choose, many who drop by discover one a bar scene to suit their taste.

This is a small bar, but is a good spot. They have drinks and they serve them without hassle. What's not to like about that! I stop in quite often while out and about.

It's a bar! They serve drinks! What do you want? I'm being flippant, but really the appeal of this place is that it's an unassuming, unpretentious small bar--neither a depressing dive nor a pretentious hipster joint but a clean, darkly lighted place with a good selection of taps. They've experimented with offering food in the past--there was a smalll Mexican menu of tacos--but while that's a nice amenity I'd recommend this first as a welcoming place to meet for a drink.

Came here on a Saturday Night. Main level seemed a bit slow, downstairs was packed due to a party. Seems to draw a crowd of young 20 somethings. The jukebox has a good variety. There were TV's upstairs and downstairs that instead of showing sports were showing a movie. The service upstairs was very slow. After waiting at the non-crowded bar for about 10 minutes, the bartender graciously decided to serve me. Too many other options in this area to have to deal with slow service.
