Unfortunately, not a place I will shop at again. They have very nice furniture and the store owner, Rico, was nice in person and helpful (had good opinions on style and color). He promised us superior customer service and his sales associate, Danny, promised us our order in 8-10 weeks (at the most, his exact words). We purchased two sofas (a big chunk of money and investment for us). After 11 weeks we still had not heard from anyone at Rico about scheduling delivery, so I called. I was told to contact Danny. He told me he was expecting arrival the following week. 7 weeks later I am still waiting for my sofa. I have only heard from Danny in response to my call or email. He has not been proactive in updating me on the status of my order or told me exactly where my furniture is, even though he said he was getting the tracking information from the shipping company. Finally, after 15 weeks and my emailing and calling to see what was wrong, Danny finally offered to deliver one of the sofas that had arrived 2 weeks prior. The other sofa, after 18 weeks, is still MIA. Danny tells me he is working on it and he is doing his job, but I feel like I am just getting strung along. All I want is to know where the sofa is and what has gone wrong, but I don't feel they are being upfront with me. I finally heard from him today (the first email he has sent me of his own accord since I have placed my order) and he tells me the sofa will be at the store next week by Friday. Even though the furniture is nice I will not be buying from Rico again. If you don't want to wait for 4.5 months then you shouldn't either. I have ordered several other big pieces from other stores and received my order quickly and without hassle. I went with this store because I wanted to promote the little guys and local businesses, but the customer service I have received leaves much to be desired.
No reason to go anywhere else – If you need anything for your home, start at Rico. The hand-selected pieces are gorgeous and varied. If you walk in looking for a couch, you'll find yourself considering one of their elegant lamps or armchairs or any number of other items before you know it!
Rico is an awesome furniture store, beautiful! – We bought a sofa recently from Rico and had the best experience possible! We shopped around and found their prices are comparable or less than other stores. It can be stressful to spend a lot of money hoping you are making the right decision, but Daniel, Mike and Rico had infinite patience in helping us choose the right shape and fabric for our Della Robbia sofa-- it is beautiful and well-made and looks fabulous in our room. (my friend who told me to look at a Room and Board sofa admits that there is no comparison, the Della Robbia is a work of art.)
They didn't pressure us, nor did they rush us. Delivery was timely and professional. We are totally happy and can't wait to shop there again.
Shop at your own risk – I am buying a new 46" tv, and needed a tv stand. After a great deal of research, I found a BDI model. One of the places listed on the website to get it was Rico. Since I live in Park Slope, I walked over. The first time I went should have been my clue not to buy there. The store looked almost closed, and the "salesman" was not very helpful. I did more research and went back. The salesman was very helpful. He even moved the furniture, so I could see the color in light, since the store was dark. He gave me a talk about buying locally and I ordered the stand. I was told it would take 1-2 weeks. At 2 weeks, I called the store. He said it arrived the previous day, would have to be unboxed and assembled and he'd call with a delivery time. Almost 1 more week passed, and I called the store to find out what happened. They just had the stand and no one was doing anything about it. This was delaying getting my new tv, computer hook up, etc. I got angry at the nonchalance., explaining it was almost 3 weeks and if I didn't get the stand the next day, I was calling Mastercard and cancelling payment. He was supposed to call back with a time. I once again had to call them. I got a window of 12-2 for delivery (about 10 blocks from my house). No one showed up until 2:50; they had to borrow my screwdriver and the other tool they needed was in the truck. These are nice people, but they don't understand that delivery of the purchased product is part of the deal. He didn't understand my anger and frustration at waiting 3 weeks for an item that was in the store for 6 days, and that if I hadn't called and complained, it would still be "waiting for delivery." He said this is typical for NYC; I know it's not, since I've lived in the city and have had many larger purchases than a tv stand delivered. I would never buy anything from them again.
One of the Best Furniture & Design shops in New York – I've been coming to Rico since 2004 and have always been impressed with his amazing, inviting, and compelling assortment of furniture and decor. Rico himself is often in the store and offers an extremely personal and welcome consult. He has waited patiently many times as I trolled through every possible combination of chairs, sofas, pillows, and fabrics. It's so laid back, I even bring my kids. He has always given me a great deal so I keep coming back. It's rare when you find a combination of amazing aesthetics, high quality, warm service, and reasonable prices.
Excellent service, excellent product – I have walked past this place for years and never went in until I needed a couch and we had looked everywhere else. We wanted a new couch with Italian sensibilities at an affordable price (not easy to find which is why we had been looking for so long). Rico has an amazing selection of furniture by Della Robbia and American Leather, both companies we had not heard of before that make modern furniture in America. Their prices were amazing and the service was great. They went above and beyond to help us with our needs and now I can't stop going back for a lamp here or a rug there. Thank you, Rico!
Great items, artistic setting, good prices – My husband and I love this shop, a great source for stylish items in an inspiring setting. The collection reflects the eye and sensibility of the artist-owner, Rico, a sculptor and designer of terrific lamps, which we've collected over the years. We've come to admire his dedication to the shop and its mission, his honesty and creativity. If you're not sure how to make things work in your space, fear not. You'll get ideas and advice without pressure.
Thoughtful collection, always learn something. – Rico is beautifully edited, ok -- curated. I know people throw around that "curated" word, but Rico really does feel like some sort of design, modern, machine-age, textile, contemporary museum wherein you get to handle the artifacts (and sit in them!)
Go there for the ideas, for the conversation and education, for the goods -- and, of course for the neighborhood. That section of Atlantic is plumb full of a wide variety of interesting stuff and very decent eating!
Design intelligence from a true artist – we've been shopping at Rico since its inception, and our apartment is more livable for it. we love our couch and will be enjoying it for years to come. the complete integration of all aspects of contemporary design, from Rico's beautiful lamps (we have several in every room) to his unique and beautiful antique wooden objects to his unparalleled furniture offerings, make it easy to decorate and know that it is going to work. every time we go there we walk away with a new thing or new idea. incredible attention to detail and impeccable service are the norm here. and the prices are unbeatable!
we love Rico!
Avoid---buy online instead – Not only is this store completely overpriced, the owner, the impish Rico, is a complete weasel. His attitude had me so flabergasted that I just walked out after speaking with him about ordering some chairs. To think such a wee person can have such a huge ego....a shame.
Luckily the internet has much better (and cheaper) options for most of Rico's products, so I advise anyone who doesn't want a retail headache to BUY ONLINE!!!
