“Great ambiance, rude bartender.”
“Frankly, Boat is a breath of fresh hoppy air on this strip oversaturated with bistros, sterile bars serving $11 drinks and tacky theme bars.”

“wasn't able to drink much that night due to illness, but the bartender was just as attentive to me as he would have been for other customers (Gave me a round of water with every drink my friends had).”
GREAT BARTENDERS, WORST CLIENTELLE ON EARTH. I love this place, except for the one blotchy plague - the people that cruise Smith Street. Some of the most prissy, entitled, wispy clowns you could ever meet wander in here. The best of times are when the bar is empty, or when the staff treats these douches like the pinatas they are asking to be (whereupon they go home and caterwaul about how mistreated they are). A good bar on a ludicrous street frequented by twits.
Best dive bar in the neighborhood.. This place is a great local dive. Frankly, Boat is a breath of fresh hoppy air on this strip oversaturated with bistros, sterile bars serving $11 drinks and tacky theme bars. Great beer selection, decently priced cocktails, entertaining bartenders - what more do you need?
Dive ! Cant believe its still around!. The place is dirty. So are the people who out hang out there. It has to be the biggest dive in that area. Its so bad that even the hipsters are grossed out.
WORST BARTENDER EVER. the fat bartender came out from behind the bar with a baseball bat and attacked us. trus story, I swear. We are pressing charges.
Rude Bartender. Usually, when I go to a bar I expect the bartenders/servers to be somewhat friendly. I wouldn't even mind a little attitude, but when the bartender/server actually says "Finish your drinks and get the f**k out of here" when notifying us that the bar was to close soon is just not okay. The bar itself was cozy, had good music and a good beer selection. Wednesday night bartender needs to lose her attitude. Perhaps her friends find it funny but actual paying clients do not! Will not be returning there again.
GREAT BAR ... HORRIBLE THURS NIGHT BARTENDER. One of my favorite neighborhood bars, also one of the first of the new wave. The only problem is the bartender who works Thurs nights and also I think Tues - the nerdy, frumpish one. she is HORRIBLE. a real B*#*#*CH. never had a buyback from her, despite being a regular. and STILL ignored. really unprofessional. really low-class and low-caliber.
Serves up good beer, excellent tunes and ample room to gather with your friends..
The Scene
The mud-colored walls and exposed brick don't exactly create a nautical feel (a framed painting of a boat is the sole gesture toward that motif). When asked about Boat's name, bartender Ray shrugs and says, "They had to call it something." The proprietors, who also own Park Slope's Great Lakes, apparently like water-related names.
The Draw
While it may feel a bit cramped and narrow up front, the room opens up nicely past the bar, offering plenty of seating and space for small gatherings. You'll find brews including Brooklyner Weisse, Bass, Anchor Steam, Pilsner Urquell and Guinness on tap; look out on Sundays for the bartender's "wicked Bloody Marys." The bar's impressive jukebox-50 cents a play--ranks among the best in the city, with an indie selection that includes bands from Television to X.
Great Jukebox. Went on NYE with a group of friends - the jukebox was FANTASTIC! Surroundings seemed comfy and cool!
Kicking Juke box and Nice Bartenders.
Went last Saturday night and had a really great time picking old tunes on the juke box. I love juke boxes that pretty much resemble the cd's I already have and the CDs I want - The Smiths, The Clash, Portoishead, etc.
The bartenders were really sweet too - they clearly like their job since they made the effort to make drinks more special and to talk to everyone there. I wasn't able to drink much that night due to illness, but the bartender was just as attentive to me as he would have been for other customers (Gave me a round of water with every drink my friends had). The one drink I did have was really yummy though - and super cheap! (I had a White Russian)
