Boring and Bacterial.
I'm new to Brooklyn and went tonight after work to meet a friend who has been there before. I arrived before my friend and found only one other customer. When I joked about this to the bartender his response was "it's only six o'clock" but his tone was not warm and fuzzy at all. Well pardon me Mr. Attitude, but okay.
Then as I ordered my drink, he removed a piece of fruit he'd had in his mouth (lemon?) and squeezed three juicy little pits in to his fingertips and threw them away. He then grabbed a bar towel and wiped off his hands before starting my drink.
This was disgusting behavior to begin with and any food or drink service professional would know to wash their hands well before continuing to serve. I debated saying something as he made the drink but instead just told him to skip the twist - I didn't want anything he'd touched in my glass.
As I drank it, I watched him cut up the rest of the evening's lemon and lime wedges which he handled freely - in fact excessively - still having not washed his hands after the pit incident and handling my money. I won't even elaborate any more on the snotty attitude of this bartender or the lack of charm in this place.
While my friend and I were there a few apparent regulars arrived to whom the bartender issued a hearty greeting. Perhaps he should share that same warmth with potential NEW regulars as I might have become but instead I am certain I'll never return.

Best gay bar in NYC.
The crowd here is no attitude and friendly, which is why it's so easy to get laid here. Great place in the summer, since they have a garden in the back.

GHETTOY attitude bar owners & bartenders.
This place should be shut down for what they do to customers. I've seen polices breaking up the fights and other things......

Fight Fight Fight.
This place is a wild mixture of mind numbing boredom or freaking bar room brawls. There was a glass smashing, rolling out the front door fight last night. It continued on the side walk with the bar staff beating down a patron, said patron coming back half an hr later and threatening to smash down the glass front door. Needless to say there was much clutching of pearls going on all night.
The police arrived a few times and the wild night seemed to settle down. This was apparently the 2nd fight in as many days. It was almost like being at Cattyshack. Me-ow!

Fun At Times.
This place can be fun. Yes, it's cliquey but what gay bar isn't?
The only problem is like the rest of the hood, it can be too bland.
Very samey samey at times.
But you can meet some interesting people after a few drinks.
Also a good place to viciously rip people apart for a few hours.

Eh, its okay.
Cliquey. bad choices in cd jukebox. Fair priced drinks. Bartenders are okay though.Used to go here more often with my boyfriend in 2003 2004, but we found better places in Manhattan. My advice, keep it moving!

VERY TACKY, AVOID!!.
Avoid this bar, because bartenders are rude and inconsiderate. Not to mention the tacky decorations in the back! Go to Bar Reis down the block.

most intoxicated and rude bartenders.
Unless coked up, agressive, unattractive bartenders is your thing, the Excelsior is terrible! The worst experience I've ever had. Will never go back. Unbelievably rude.
