Editorial Review for Excelsior – by Karyn Gladstone

In Short
Excelsior's crimson walls reflect cheer onto clients' rosy complexions, creating a warm, welcoming vibe. The stylish decor falls somewhere between art deco and pure '70s, with yellow gumdrop lights overhanging a wide mahogany bar. Brooklyn still doesn't move as fast as Manhattan, so this scene isn't quite as cruisy. In fact, Excelsior feels in many ways like a casual dating service for outerborough gay men.

This place should be shut down for what they do to customers. I've seen polices breaking up the fights and other things......

Cons: attitudes of bartenders & owners

This place is a wild mixture of mind numbing boredom or freaking bar room brawls. There was a glass smashing, rolling out the front door fight last night. It continued on the side walk with the bar staff beating down a patron, said patron coming back half an hr later and threatening to smash down the glass front door. Needless to say there was much clutching of pearls going on all night. The police arrived a few times and the wild night seemed to settle down. This was apparently the 2nd fight in as many days. It was almost like being at Cattyshack. Me-ow!

Pros: There's always a different vibe

Cons: Sometimes the vibe is Fight Club!
